KLAUS SCHULZE has amassed a back catalogue which few can rival, single-mindedly pursuing a creative course that one could spend the better part of a lifetime absorbing. "La Vie Electronique 3" and "La Vie Electronique 4" are now available as 3CD digipak releases, part of a collectors set spanning all of his music.
After the tremendous success of their latest releases "Tanz die Revolution", "Earthling" and "Monumentum", FROZEN PLASMA return with yet another club attack. "Tanz die Revolution (International Version)" was initially made for promo use in South America, but somehow it found its way back into Europe, and has now become hugely in demand. This international version is completed by 4 bonus tracks.
The "Classixx" series from Infacted continues... The legendary German EBM act THE INVINCIBLE SPIRIT gave us hits such as "Push!", "Devil Dance" and "Make a Device. This 11-track CD contains not only the four original tracks from "Push!", but also the new version of "Push!" from the MCD re-release of 1990, two live versions and more rare mixes.
ERASURE announce the release of "Erasure.Club", a collection of rare club remixes - most available here for the first time ever on CD. Originally available in 1990 as three separate promo-only 12"s, fan demand has prompted the release of these remastered remixes on one CD.
The "Singles Box" is an extremely limited clamshell box containing CD reproductions of the first 10 UK-issued singles by THE SMITHS in their original picture sleeves, along with the 12" single tracklistings. The box also contains two additional singles which are exclusive to this box set. The box is completed with a poster featuring the single artworks.
Regarded by some as the U.K.'s first punk band, THE DAMNED were certainly one of the first to come to the attention of the wider public with the very first punk single "New Rose". "Damned, Damned, Damned" was originally released in February 1977 and is considered by many fans to be THE DAMNED's greatest release in their extensive catalogue. Along with the original album, this Deluxe Edition captures everything else that the band recorded under professional circumstances during punk's year zero, including a previously unreleased bootleg of the band's very first gig.
LITTLE DRAGON return with a spectacular second album offering, a pulsating electro pop epic that PRINCE would be proud of (only fronted by a beautiful Swedish lady with a sultry voice). With disparate influences from DEPECHE MODE to PRINCE, LITTLE DRAGON take their place among artists who straddle many genres, yet somehow create their own.
"Like Stukas Angel Fall" is a totally re-recorded album of classic tracks from the early 6COMM period and also a few tracks from Patrick Leagas' previous work in DEATH IN JUNE. Overall, this release includes 16 great songs, including brilliant new versions of "Torture Garden" and "Carousel" with new vocal sections.
DAVID SYLVIAN is a man apart. In his thirty-year career that spans the New Romantic movement, ambient works, progressive rock, and mature and esoteric pop. But the 00s have seen a more extreme side of his work. While 2003's "Blemish" startled long-time fans with its emotional rigour, Sylvian has taken the next step with "Manafon" – a work of nuance and stern musicality, that is also intriguing, suspenseful, and horribly beautiful.
"Into the Arms of Chaos" is the first studio album in years by WHISPERS IN THE SHADOWS (featuring Ashley Dayour - guitarist from L'ÂME IMMORTELLE). Thundering drums, wailing vocals, and a dark growling bass meet partly hard, partly melodic guitars. Also available as a limited edition CD+DVD box set, including a 45 minute concert, interviews, bonus footage and a 12-page booklet.
New Artist Spotlight
There's two new artists for your consideration this week. From Long Beach, California, HEX RX is a project featuring Roger Jarvis of KEVORKIAN DEATH CYCLE and Taury Goforth of KiLL SWiTCH. Their debut release "X" has demolished dancefloors with a terror EBM cross between SKINNY PUPPY and COMBICHRIST. The project's second album "D" has two new collaborators in the form of Nick Viola of FRACTURED TRANSMISSION and Daemon Noir of KUBIKZAHL. This second HEX RX album boasts not only 12 full new tracks and two remixes, but also a more noisy raw edge in contrast to the material on their first release "X".
"Infection" is the first release from Milan-based LSD PROJECT, a mix of drum machines, synthesizers and hard melodies, with distorted vocals and vocoder. The 8-track release includes remixes from several famous industrial and electro bands, including X-FUSION, DAWN OF ASHES and TAMTRUM. The CD is being released at a bargain price with additional gadgets to promote it, including a poster, postcards, stickers and pins.

Review Thanks to volumes like this one, it is no longer possible for newcomers to (or even diehard enthusiasts of) KLAUS SCHULZE's music use the excuse of its unavailability to deny themselves the pleasure of experience. Already, the glut of this singular musician's back catalog has been revived in full, beautifully reissued and repackaged; all of his original, notoriously hard-to-find recordings, most containing additional tracks, are now easily obtainable, and instantly collectable. Review Do synthesists dream of electric beeps? Listening to KLAUS SCHULZE's catalog in the 21st century, re-experiencing the gargantuan works that defined both his illustrious career and the much-heralded genre of electronica loosely defined as "spacemusic", can we learn anything? Only that where others dared follow, Schulze took the lead, and he's barely looked back since. Oh, stylistic frontiers are sometimes explored again in order to yield further riches and concepts established in the bygone days of the 70s rear their heads from time to time, but more often than not, Schulze epitomizes what many consider to be the pinnacle of 20th Century Teutonic electronica. Rather than truck in calcifying prog-rock or degenerate into the stultifying realms of "new age", Schulze has harnessed all the great instrumental tools of the era (Moogs, ARPs, EMS, and other names that evoke ancient analog heaven) and essentially forged his own musical niche. In so doing, he has amassed a back catalog which few can rival, single-mindedly pursuing a creative course that one could spend the better part of a lifetime absorbing. Review After the tremendous success of their latest releases "Tanz die Revolution" and "Earthling" (the former having been sold out and deleted very quickly, and the second of which we have a very few copies still available) and also of their second studio album "Monumentum", FROZEN PLASMA return with yet another club attack. Review The "Classixx" series from Infacted continues... When talking about German EBM, there's one name that is impossible to avoid mentioning: Thomas Lüdke – leader and songwriter of the legendary act THE INVINCIBLE SPIRIT. With hits such as "Push!", "Devil Dance" and "Make a Device", he is without a doubt to be regarded as one of the founders of the German 'Electronic Body Music' movement! Reason enough, then, for Infacted to re-release the legendary "Push!" single. Did we say 'single'??? Review Regarded by some as the U.K.'s first punk band, THE DAMNED were certainly one of the first to come to the attention of the wider public with the very first punk single, "New Rose" released on Stiff Records in November 1976. The original members - vampire elect and former undertaker, lead vocalist Dave Vanian; Johnny Thunders look-a-like Brian James on guitar; madcap red beret wearing bassist Captain Sensible; and Rat Scabies drumming-up trouble from the rear - had all dedicated themselves to music in the years before punk hit the fan. As such, the full-on attack of the original, four-piece band was unique and quite unlike anything that had been heard until that point – melody was never sacrificed in favour of power and this approach became the template for successive waves of sonic warriors to try and achieve. Their turbulent existence would plague their progress however, as the band split, reformed and split again many times over, to the extent that fans became unsure which musicians were actually in the band at any given time. Added to this their unsettling habit of recording and releasing albums under a variety of different labels, all contributed to THE DAMNED never quite fulfilling the potential that they so richly deserved. Success did come in fits and starts though, and in 1986, they reached their highest UK singles chart position of number 3 with their version of Barry Ryan's "Eloise". Today, THE DAMNED release albums as credible as those of yore and are never too far away from a town near you, with their original explosive live manifesto as infectious as ever it was. "Damned, Damned, Damned" was originally released in February 1977 and reached number 36 in the UK chart. And it still thrills. Its freshness, energy and capacity to musically assault have never dimmed. As British punk's first album it remains timeless. The album explodes with an energy, power and cutting edge that none of its rivals came remotely close to matching. As such, it is considered by many fans to be THE DAMNED's greatest release in their extensive catalogue. Along with the original album, this Deluxe Edition captures everything else that the band recorded under professional circumstances during punk's year zero. Early demos, all the B-sides, both John Peel Sessions, their scorching BBC 'In Concert' appearance and the rare "Stretcher Case Baby"/"Sick Of Being Sick" 7" single recording. And if that isn't enough, this release also features a previously unreleased bootleg of the band's very first gig recorded from the 100 Club on July 6th 1976. Review LITTLE DRAGON return with a spectacular second album offering, a pulsating electro pop epic that PRINCE would be proud of (only fronted by a beautiful Swedish lady with a sultry voice). A bold and surprising step forward from their self-titled debut, released two years ago to great acclaim especially in specialist circles. "Machine Dreams", with its nagging hooks and gloriously infectious tunes, should finally see the band break out into the mainstream. Recorded in their home city of Gothenburg, "Machine Dreams" is a gigantic leap on from previous material but still maintains a distinct sound that can only be LITTLE DRAGON. Be it Yukimi's warmly inviting vocals, Erik's dextrous drumming, the vast array of synths and bleeps created by Hakan, or Frederik's bubbling bass lines, together they don't sound like anything else around right now. The move towards a more electronic sound was a conscious one, as Yukimi explains: "The title 'Machine Dreams' seems obvious. These days, humans seem more and more like machines, and as technology evolves, machines feel more human and it becomes fuzzy and beautiful and science fiction-ish. We feel dependent on our machines to create and live, and their sounds reflect us." With disparate influences from DEPECHE MODE to PRINCE, LCD SOUNDSYSTEM to JAMES HOLDEN, Dancehall to R&B, Jazz and Soul, LITTLE DRAGON take their place among artists who straddle many genres, yet somehow create their own and in doing so create "sounds that make time stop" (Yukimi). On "Manafon", Sylvian pursues "a completely modern kind of chamber music. Intimate, dynamic, emotive, democratic, economical." In sessions in London, Vienna, and Tokyo, Sylvian assembled the world's leading improvisers and innovators, artists who explore free improvisation, space-specific performance, and live electronics. From Evan Parker and Keith Rowe, to Fennesz and members of Polwechsel, to Sachiko M and Otomo Yoshihide, the musicians provide both a backdrop and a counterweight to his own vocal performances – which, minus one instrumental, are nakedly the center of each piece. Sylvian's voice has never been so dominant or so striking, and his resonant tenor and deliberate vibrato captivate the listener from the start of "Small Metal Gods". "It's like a one-man monologue in which every change of light and backdrop is crucial to the carrying of the central performance. It's an ensemble work even though there is a central performance." Review By recording this acoustic album in a single four-day session in a barn in rural Herefordshire AND ALSO THE TREES have succeeded in capturing a feeling of spontaneous vitality, from the 'live' situation, and a sense of space and detail from the ancient and sparse environment. The 14 songs selected from throughout their song writing history are performed and carefully arranged for vocal, acoustic guitar and double bass with the occasional accompaniment of dulcimer, accordion and melodica. The oldest song "A Room Lives in Lucy", their indie chart hit from 1985 is fascinatingly re-interpreted and despite its understated and somewhat surreal menace, sits with surprising ease beside the title track "When the Rains Come" a song which was completed just in time for the recording session. To those familiar with the universe of AND ALSO THE TREES these captivating recordings will provide an exciting redefinition of their rich melodies and unique musical landscapes and atmospheres. Despite coming from an era where John Peel (who described them as "too English for the English") was king and their constant spiritual benefactor Robert Smith (THE CURE) was just emerging from the mists of the post-punk scene, AND ALSO THE TREES have continued to evolve and without losing track of their creative soul. Still they continue to confound and enchant. So the fact, that Adrian Hates' (DIARY OF DREAMS) label has now signed new act SININE from Estonia is a guarantee of something really outstanding to come! It was in the autumn of 2003 that the Estonian guitarist Mauno Meesit, having played in several experimental and rock bands, started searching for ways of making more personalized music. In addition to playing guitar he started experimenting with synthesizers and samplers, and the project SININE (the Estonian word for "blue") was born. Expansion of musical borders gave way to new explorations. From this, a sort of a musical stained glass window evolved, wherein different genres can be heard, and although combined freely, the music still remains loyal to the author's own handwriting. The music of SININE is a composition of real-life emotions and moments from the past, re-awoken in multi-layered sound spheres. Meesit has found sound and melody.equivalents for every place, atmosphere and cognition described, and by using a variety of instruments and multi-layered musical compositions, a creation where pop music blends with the borderlands of more refined genres emerges. It has resulted in music that does not need any sub-cultural genre to belong to, but seeks instead to emotionally recognize the language of music. Review In 1984 VORTEX CAMPAIGN invited COIL and THE NEW BLOCKADERS to collaborate. The result, unofficially referred to as "“Dolbied"”, was released on cassette in an edition of 50, and later reissued on CD in an edition of 500. The release has since gone on to become legendary, showcasing two of the most influential groups on the scene at the early stages of their development. “"The Melancholy Mad Tenant"” is an authorised release, sanctioned by all three groups. Formed in 1983 the output of COIL has ranged from the avant-garde, to experimental neoclassical, to extended excursions into pure electronica. Many bands and composers have cited COIL as an influence. They were originally mainly a studio group, but in 2000 they commenced a successful series of tours that proved to be extremely remarkable events. THE NEW BLOCKADERS began in 1982 with the release of their debut LP "“Changez Les Blockeurs"” which is cited by many as a defining moment in the history of noise music. Review At first, it's a little difficult to determine where THE KNIFE ends and FEVER RAY begins. On paper, it's clear -- THE KNIFE is the project of Karin Dreijer and her brother Olof, while FEVER RAY is Karin with co-producers Christoffer Berg, Van Rivers, and the Subliminal Kid -- but the differences aren't as distinct when listening to "Fever Ray" the first few times. Initially, the album's dark, frosty atmosphere feels like a continuation of THE KNIFE's brilliant "Silent Shout", and the oddly bouncy rhythms on songs like "Triangle Walks" and "Coconut" recall the duo's exotic-yet-frozen Nordic/Caribbean fusion. Eventually, though, "Fever Ray" reveals itself as far darker and more intimate than anything by THE KNIFE. THE KNIFE's spooky impulses are usually tempered by vivid pop instincts that FEVER RAY replaces with a consistently eerie mood, particularly on "Concrete Walls", which feels like an even grimmer cousin of "Silent Shout"'s "From Off to On". However, "Fever Ray"'s mix of confessional lyrics and chilly, blatantly synthetic and often harsh sounds make this album as successful an electronic singer/songwriter album as BJÖRK's "Homogenic". These are some of the most alluring and disturbing songs Dreijer has been involved in making: the excellent album opener "If I Had a Heart" explores possibly inhuman need with a churning, almost subliminal synth and murky bass driving Dreijer's pitch-shifted vocals (which sound more like a different part of her psyche than a different character in the song); when her untreated voice comes in, keening "will I ever ever reach the floor?" she sounds even more frail and desperate by comparison. The rest of "Fever Ray" follows suit, offering fragile portraits and sketches that walk the fine line between intimate and insular. Dreijer further expands on the storytelling skills she developed on "Silent Shout": the characters in her songs feel even more resonant and unique, especially on "When I Grow Up", which is as fascinatingly fragmented as a child's train of thought, skipping from sentiments like "I'm very good with plants" to "I've never liked that sad look by someone who wants to be loved by you." She also has an eye for unusual details, as on "Seven"'s "November smoke, and your toes go numb." It all comes together on the haunting "Now's the Only Time I Know", where the low end of Dreijer's voice sounds especially vulnerable and the lyrics fill in just enough to be tantalizing. At times, "Fever Ray" threatens to become a little too mysterious, but it never sounds less than intriguing, from the layers of claps and castanets that make up the beat on "I'm Not Done" to "Keep the Streets Empty for Me"'s almost imperceptible guitars. Electronically Yours started life as a blog in tandem with Secrets Online, both in celebration of synthesizer pioneers THE HUMAN LEAGUE. The thrill of electronic music merged the two sites into one. Review VNV NATION's highly anticipated release "Reformation 1" is finally on its way! This is a highly limited release that's especially intended for the band's fans, VNV NATION's first box set, the contents of which are something that any fan would love to own - a 12-track live CD (recorded on the "Matter and Form" tour in 2005, at the Wave Gothic Treffen Festival in 2006, on the "Judgement" Tour in 2007 and at the M'era Luna festival in 2008), a 13-track remix album featuring rare or previously unreleased material (tracks written between "Future Perfect" and "Matter and Form" albums, for the soundtrack of the movie "Gene Generation" in 2007), and a DVD containing 8 videoclips. There will also be a nicely designed booklet with lyrics, full information on all the tracks and a large number of live photos, all packaged in a high quality, dark grey, fabric covered box with the band's name and logo embossed on it. Ronan Harris says of Reformation 1: "We spent a lot of time in 2008 planning what our releases should be like from now on and this is part of the results. The original idea for "Reformation" was to replace the need for singles by releasing an EP or Album containing remixes, alternate versions and live versions of tracks from the album "Matter and Form". We never abandoned the plan and, as ideas grew, "Reformation" evolved into something much bigger and better. "Reformation 1" will be part of a series to release special material to our fans. We put a lot of work into this and we're very proud of the results. We hope you will be too."
