Welcome to the first weekly round-up of forthcoming releases in 2010.
Excellent news to start with as NITZER EBB are back with a brand new studio album, "Industrial Complex". Opening with a rousing bassline, reminiscent of the wonderful "Murderous", the opening track "Promises" sets the tone and demonstrates the Chelmsford boys are as brilliant and relevant today as ever.
DIORAMA's upcoming release "Cubed" is their seventh studio album since they debuted in 1999 with their much vaunted longplayer "Pale". Potential dancefloor fillers like "Ignite" and "Apocalypse Later", in combination with soul-gripping ballads like "My Counterfeit" and "Lord of the Lies" result in a self-contained work of art. The limited deluxe edition of "Cubed" is equipped with a bonus CD, and there will be 7-TRACK EP before the album, entitled "Child of Entertainment". As if that wasn't enough, the sold-out "Pale" re-issue has been re-pressed too.
Aimed at the heart of the dancefloor, XP8's music keeps listeners moving through the night, melding an airy blend of EBM, electronica, techno and trance. "Drop the Mask" is a further evolution of the band's sound, showing the duo of Marco Visconti and Marko Resurreccion taking their collective music prowess to new heights.
With the release of their last album "Evol Love Industry" STATE OF THE UNION achieved a real breakthrough in the European electronic scene. With "Dancing in the Dark" the band delivers another floorsmash to fans and clubs around the globe! The MCD comes with an extraordinary 25 versions of "Dancing in the Dark" (15 audio + 10 mp3).
INKUBUS SUKKUBUS' new release "Viva la Muerte" tells the story of a couple celebrating their wedding on "Dia de los Muerto" - the Mexican Day of the Dead. The 10 tracks relate their eternal love and how nothing - not even death - can divide them. This 12th studio release is a partial departure from the band's usual style.
Dark electronic band LA MAGRA return with their third regular album, "Paradise Lost". Twelve timeless and beautiful electrohymns tell about life in the shadoworld and the desolate being of immortality. The limited first pressing of this album also includes additional remixes from WYNARDTAGE, SUICIDAL ROMANCE and THE ETERNAL AFFLICT.
The GENITORTURERS are now unleashing the long-anticipated fourth studio album "Blackheart Revolution" unto the eagerly awaiting world. The band take their crossover blend of US industrial metal and rock with pushing electro and hardcore punk influences onto a new level.
NEW ORDER's first compilation album, "Substance" (1987), was the album that finally broke the group through to commercial success in the U.S. Their second one, "The Best of New Order", includes one song from each of the group's albums, some rarities, plus "Bizarre Love Triangle", repeated from "Substance". These 17 tracks provide a good survey of NEW ORDER from 1981-1993.
ATTRITION have been busy re-issuing their back-catalogue, with "The Hidden Agenda" (1993), "Dante's Kitchen" (1994), "Ephemera" (1995) and "Keepsakes and Reflections" (2001) all available again.
When "Song and Legend" was originally released by SEX GANG CHILDREN in 1983 it reached No. 1 in the Indie Album Chart and stayed in that chart for 17 weeks. This re-release of this massive album will contain four acoustic bonus tracks, and an updated booklet with extensive sleeve notes, rare photographs and a complete discography of the band.

Problems Problems!!!
We're very frustrated to report that since we returned from Iceland we've been having major internet problems, as British Telecom has migrated our ISP to their new backbone and now we're having repeated (very frequent) disconnections. This has been exacerbated by Acer still having our laptop (we only have two computers), despite it being sent for a simple repair three weeks ago.
To top this all off, we haven't received a single delivery from any supplier yet, as the weather (yes we have several inches of snow here in the UK) has prevented deliveries from reaching us. We've also been prevented from getting out for most of last week too. Please bear with us whilst we get through these annoying problems.

Review When Douglas McCarthy and Bon Harris formed a band in 1982 and started to record their first demos, they didn't yet know that they were writing music history. Their sound was raw and unpolished, an electronic adaptation of the dying punk movement. With minimal funding, drums, a sequencer and McCarthy's penetrating voice, they quickly came to stand as a synonym for a significant new musical genre: Electronic Body Music (or EBM for short). Through seminal albums such as "That Total Age", "Belief" and "Ebbhead", they continued to beat their own unique path, until they parted company after ten years. However, this was not the end and recent reunion shows have proven that there is life still in the old ghost. As brilliant and relevant today as ever, they are now back with a brand new studio album, "Industrial Complex". Opening with a rousing bassline, reminiscent of the wonderful "Murderous", the opening track "Promises" sets the tone. McCarthy's voice varies from offensive to fragile, with an arrangement rich in detail, edginess and energy. This album is like a bridge back in time to the 80s. By the time of their second album "Sin City" (1998) the GENITORTURERS had gained a massive and controversial reputation with their flamboyant BDSM shows lead by the stunning blonde Gen. A third album followed with "Machine Love" (2000), tracks from which were featured in movie scores and on game soundtracks. After a creative break, the GENITORTURERS finally return. Review NEW ORDER's first compilation album, "Substance" (1987), was the album that finally broke the group through to commercial success in the U.S. Their second one, "The Best of New Order", isn't exactly Substance II. Whilst "Substance" was a singles collection, and "Best Of" does pick up that story, the compilers have additionally included one song each from the group's albums (with the exception of Brotherhood): "Dreams Never End" from "Movement", "Age of Consent" from "Power, Corruption & Lies", "Love Vigilantes" from "Low-Life", "Vanishing Point" from "Technique", and "Ruined in a Day" from "Republic". Add in some rarities, plus "Bizarre Love Triangle", repeated from "Substance", and you have 17 tracks taking up 70 and a half minutes and providing a good survey of NEW ORDER, 1981-1993. "Substance", with its concentration on the group's run of classic singles from the early 80s, is a more consistent effort, but "The Best of New Order", even if it is misnamed, is an excellent sampler of one of the major British bands of the 1980s. Review Originally released in 1993 on Hyperium Records in Germany, and a few years later on Martin Atkins' Invisible Records in the States, "The Hidden Agenda" was a breakthrough album for ATTRITION and contains some of their best known work. From the club hits "Lip Sync" and "Mercy Machine" (live favourites to this day) to the dark ambience of "The Cage" (perhaps better known as the band's own recording studio for the past 15 years) to the electic cover of Elvis's "His Latest Flame". With cover artwork from English artist Mark Lomax, the album has been totally re-mastered by main man Martin Bowes and this edition includes three extra tracks from the "Lip Sync" CD single. Review "Dante's Kitchen", originally released in 1994, is an eclectic album which includes many favourites from the current ATTRITION live show. Favourites such as the song "Two Gods" (featured on the hugely successful Projekt records "New Face of Goth" CD sampler, as well as at least two movie scores), the haunting and lyrical "Head of Gabriel" and the title track itself, "Dante's Kitchen" - the culmination of ATTRITION's work for many years with dark ambient electronics, classical and rhythmic elements. Influences range from drum'n'bass to "gothic" jazz, with classical excursions as well, in the use of violin on many of the tracks, this time from French musician Rafael who joins main man Martin Bowes and vocalist Julia Waller. There is also a cameo vocal appearance from Liz Green of UK techno goth act SWARF. Review "Ephemera", the second in ATTRITION's occasional series of dark ambient instrumental soundtracks, was released to critical acclaim on the now defunct Hyperium label in Germany in 1995 - a follow up to ATTRITION's "This Death House" album of dark analogue soundscapes of 1982. This album is much more than just an exploration of the emerging digital technologies of the times, with founder member Martin Bowes using these tools to take a more abstract look at the themes of love, sex, religion, beauty, hope and despair that pervade any ATTRITION album. Review Originally released in 2001 on Martin Atkins' Invisible Records in the USA, "Keepsakes and Reflections" is a collection of rare ATTRITION material from singles and compilation appearances from their most prolific 90s period, and contains tracks taken from long out-of-print releases from labels in Italy, Austria, Portugal, USA, Mexico and Sweden. It includes covers of JOHN FOXX's "Underpass", THE DEAD KENNEDY's "Kill the poor", MINISTRY's "Cannibal song" and BLACK TAPE FOR A BLUE GIRL's "Memory, Uncaring friend". This version also includes two bonus tracks in "Scenario II" and "The Cage - Refrain". Review This split release from the canadian shoegazers NADJA and the still new and hot german band KODIAK comes up with two sidelong, complex tracks. NADJA have the deep drones and all the darkness of doom, but they also have intricate melodies that permeate their long dirges... What's commendable about NADJA is the alchemical experimentation with the genres resulting in a unique concoction of doom metal, drone, shoegazer layering, and avant-rock explorations. KODIAK: not a band that you just play for enjoyment; they need time and attention, but when they locks you in their slowly developing, pachyderm-paced punishing groove, KODIAK have a lot to offer, proving that monotony and monolithic heaviness are enough to make great songs, if you know how. Review The German cult electronic band WELLE:ERDBALL have done a lot of things in the last 16 years. First and foremost their music and records of course, but in addition to this they have released a comic book, a cinema movie (due in March 2010) and now this radio play as a 2CD box set. WELLE:ERDBALL are themselves big fans of radio plays and so in 2006 they produced an episode of "The Adventures of Commander Laserstrahl", which was an unexpected success. More episodes followed, resulting in a CD release for the whole of season one. The band have now gone on to produce a second season, and as the original CD has now been deleted for quite some time, it seems fitting to mark the end of the story with a 2CD set containing all the episodes. Review After debuting this autumn with a well-received single collaboration with AYRIA, Toronto's own V01D is set to launch his debut double CD on Artoffact Records. Entitled "This Is Not a False Alarm Anymore", V01D's debut is a sonic riddle without any easy-access key. The album is dense and cerebral, veers into strange territory for industrial, including off-time drumming, live guitars, and very well-written lyrics. Not your usual fodder. Of course, V01D shows his roots on every track, meshing elements of HAUJOBB, BOARDS OF CANADA, POP WILL EAT ITSELF, FAITH NO MORE and UNDERWORLD into a slick and surprising release. "Burnt Upon Re-Entry" (the companion disc to this stunning CD) contains 8 remixes and 2 new songs, including the already noteworthy collaboration with AYRIA. Add to that remixes from Artoffact artists STANDEG and HEADSCAN, and you have the makings of a superb aural experience. If that wasn't enough, invited guests MEMMAKER and DISKONNEKTED round out the disc with remixes of their own. The new tracks "Cold to the Touch" and "I.Am.Fire" are spectacular. Fans of electronic-industrial that is not afraid to experiment and take risks will hail V01D as the second coming.
