Welcome to the weekly round-up of forthcoming releases. Somewhat sparse this week in the run up to Christmas, but at least NITZER EBB are back!
For the third week running we have a new DEPECHE MODE release! The double 12" vinyl edition of "Fragile Tension/Hole to Feed" features two mixes each of "Fragile Tension", "Hole to Feed", "Perfect" and "Peace", including two exclusive mixes not available on any of the other formats.
This highly-anticipated big screen adaptation of the bestselling, Pulitzer Prize-winning novel "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy sees NICK CAVE and WARREN ELLIS create an evocative score featuring violin and piano, with beautiful fleeting melodies and eerie sound loops filled with terror and suspense. The music was composed as a direct response to the film - a light, haunting, simple score with a sense of absence and loss at its heart.
ANNE CLARK achieved cult status during the 80s, through her mix of spoken word and the innovative use of electronics. And the concerts performed the 'Queen of Darkwave and Spoken Word' are singular, exquisite events. This first ever live DVD from this remarkable artist was filmed in December 2008 in Mainz, and features songs from her latest album "The Smallest Acts of Kindness", as well as many of her standout hits. Also comes with a free bonus CD.
Heavy and slow, KILLING JOKE (at least early in their career) were a quasi-metal band dancing to a tune of doom and gloom. From 1978 and into the early 80s the band reached the peak of their popularity, and though they continued to release albums for the rest of the decade, these failed to regain the audience they had previously captured. In 1994, KILLING JOKE once again re-formed, this time as a trio and with a more electronic slant. The band are featured on the "Requiem" DVD in a concert they gave at The Lokerse Festival in the Summer of 2003 - the DVD+CD double-pack contains the entire set on video and audio!
KATSEN are the electronic pop duo of Chris Blackburn and Donna Grimaldi. Following on from cameo appearances on compilations such as "Bot Pop" (Happy Robots) and "Electronically Yours Volume 1" (Undo/EMI), "It Hertz!" is the full-length offspring of KATSEN's synthpop-inspired partnership - their love of the square wave and all things Casio. Hailed as "Alternative Album of the Week" by Steve Lamacq on Radio 1 and "Album of the Month" by blog Electronically Yours, KATSEN come recommended for fans of MARSHEAUX, PARRALOX and CLIENT.
After debuting this autumn with a well-received single collaboration with AYRIA, Toronto's own V01D is set to launch his debut double CD. Entitled "This Is Not a False Alarm Anymore", V01D's debut is dense and cerebral, veering into strange territory for industrial, including off-time drumming, live guitars, and very well-written lyrics. V01D meshes elements of HAUJOBB, BOARDS OF CANADA, POP WILL EAT ITSELF, FAITH NO MORE and UNDERWORLD into a slick and surprising release. "Burnt Upon Re-Entry" (the companion disc) contains 8 remixes and 2 new songs, including remixes from STANDEG, MEMMAKER, DISKONNEKTED and others.
DETRITUS's fourth full-length album is on the one hand a general update of ground covered in the previous three releases, and simultaneously a first foray into new territory for this iconic artist. Very detailed, and combining both ferocious drum'n'bass moments with delicate and touching melodies, "Things Gone Wrong" caresses, kicks and impresses as DETRITUS's most crafted release.
"Ministry of Sound: Anthems Electronic 80s" truly is a fantastic collection of Electronic 80s anthems from the renowned 'Ministry of Sound'. This album contains hit after hit - unlike so many 80s albums with way too many fillers on them.
The "Paleo Folk Festival 2002" DVD shows THE CURE filmed live in 2002 at the famous Paleo Festival, a musical happening that takes place every summer in Switzerland. Announced as 'The Last Ever Cure Tour', the expectations were high for this gig and THE CURE did not disappoint!
MARILYN MANSON's performances have a high 'shock' factor, which appeals to his growing fan base. A sound that meshes industrial, rock and elements of metal, all contributing to the pure, unleashed live energy on this DVD "What You See Is What You Get - Australia '99".
A personal recommendation now - BLACK RAIN's "Black Snow - the Completely Different Xmas Compilation" is just an excellent mix of Christmas related songs in a unique dark wrapping - very enjoyable!!

Whilst we'll be working most days, our main supplier closes for two weeks over this period. As such, our last order before Christmas will be placed with them on 17th December and arrive with us on the 21st. Please order by 9am on 17th December (GMT) to give us the best chance of having your product before Christmas (assuming it's not in stock with us and is from our main supplier).
Additionally, our first shipment in 2010 will not arrive with us until 11th January from this supplier. We will continue to send out as many orders as possible over the festive period, but are limited by closures at all of our suppliers.

After 1988's "Outside the Gate", the group broke up, only to reunite two years later. In 1994, after a further break of four years, KILLING JOKE once again re-formed, this time as a trio and with a more electronic slant. Of course, V01D shows his roots on every track, meshing elements of HAUJOBB, BOARDS OF CANADA, POP WILL EAT ITSELF, FAITH NO MORE and UNDERWORLD into a slick and surprising release. Review After several years out of print, the 30th Anniversary edition of JEAN MICHEL JARRE's groundbreaking album "Oxygène" is now finally available again, in which the synth wizard dusted off his old analogue synths to create a brand new live recording of his seminal album. Originally released in 1976, the album proved to be a massive hit for the French electronic musician, son of film composer Maurice Jarre. JARRE sought to create warmer sonic textures through the technology of the time, and the result was this this pioneering six-part album. "Oxygène"'s bizarrely creepy cover, featuring a skull underneath the peeled away surface of the globe belies the music's lush beauty, though it does point to haunting moments such as "Oxygène III". The record's most recognizable track is "Oxygène IV" which features percolating synth lines and sparse, nearly imperceptible beats. This album led JARRE to international fame. Review NITZER EBB are supporting DEPECHE MODE on the forthcoming leg of their world tour in January and February of 2010. To celebrate this, Mute are making available two compilations releases, a 'best of' and a remix album, together in a single slipcase. Formed in Chelmsford when main protagonists Douglas McCarthy (vocals) and Bon Harris (drums, programming) were just 15, NITZER cut a dynamic swathe through the industrial music and Balaeric beat scenes of the 1980s and 90s. They were electro-punks before the genre even existed, at a time when THE PRODIGY were not even a gleam in fellow Essex boy Liam Howlett's eye. Militaristic, intimidating yet always accessible, NITZER EBB enjoyed a string of ferocious club hits and released five critically acclaimed albums on Mute. From their first ever single, 1984's "Isn't It Funny How Your Body Works" through to their final single "I Thought" in 1995, they were a band whose honed aggression, originality and precision were impeccable. Artists lined up to cite them as a major influence, or less honourably, simply to exploit the EBB's musical template for their own individual gain. Whilst such a situation may be a cause of great annoyance to most bands, the EBB maintain a healthy level of stoicism. There is certainly more than a hint of 80s electronica on "Dischord" - some of the basslines are straight out of the yearbooks 80-85! There are digital synths on the album, of that there is no doubt but they have been tweaked to within an inch of their lives. This results in a less clinical sound with a bit more warmth than you would normally expect from an all-electronic band. After a long wait, finally the "Concerto No. 6: A Baroque Plaisanterie" CD (originally released in 1996) has been re-pressed in a beautiful digipak edition with digitally re-mastered sound and an exclusive bonus track recorded in 2009. It will contain nine songs taken from the original album plus "Orlando, a Female" taken from the out of press "Orlando" EP and ATARAXIA's version of Franz Schubert's "Ave Maria". "Concerto No. 6” was inspired by ATARAXIA's admiration for the stylistic canons of Baroque music, a music that incessantely pursued a formal aesthetic elegance that was sometimes the mirror of an inner beauty. This was also an ironic album in which, sometimes, the band made fun of the very age from which they had taken inspiration. A deeply felt tribute to the Music Maestros of the past, a suffered research in the profound meaning of music, a personal homage to the impressive film of A. Corneau "Tous les Matins du Monde", a dialogue between our earthly dimension and the ones we belong to before being born and after death, an individual contribution to the Baroque harmonies and age, a subtle balance between formal beauty, passion and spontaneity, a singular excursion in the purity of sound. Review Individual maturity and artistic growth led EVEN VAST to an evident separation from their initial sound, which was rather heavy and slow as characterized by "Hear Me out" (1999) and "Outsleeping" (2003), two albums which nonetheless gained the band critical acclaim and aroused the interest of many people. Their third album "Teach Me How to Bleed" (2007) led the band towards a more decadent darkwave sound. In late 2007, they decided to modify their moniker to EVEN MORE VAST (also reflecting the stabilisation of their lineup as a trio) and went on to record this current album which features completely re-arranged and re-recorded versions of the songs from "Teach Me...", plus three promo tracks recorded in late 2007, and the previously unreleased track entitled "Would You Believe?". The result is an album of HIGHLY recommended first class wave/gothic/ethereal/cold wave, comparable with earlier FAITH AND THE MUSE and the early 4AD sound, such as the COCTEAU TWINS - without ever sounding 'dated', 'retro' or 'trendy'. "Would You Believe?" is simply 'handmade music' - each and every track has its own singular character, free from clichés. EVEN MORE VAST know their influences, without ever trying to copy them. Even their cover version of JOY DIVISION's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" (which has been highly praised by many German mags) is no imitative blasphemy, but a highly inspired homage, as only THE SWANS have succeeded in delivering so far! A truly wonderful album, which wins the listener over from the very first listen, thanks to marvellous instrumentation, impressive songwriting and, above all, Antonietta's intense vocals. In short, with "Would You Believe?", Antonietta Scilipoti (vocals and keyboards), Luca Martello (guitars and electronics) and Vincenzo Di Leo (bass) deliver a true pearl in this often boring music scene and this album deserves attention! Review What happened to the good old sound of the early 80s, when artists like FAD GADGET and GARY NUMAN understood working with electronics as one giant wild and anarchistic playground? Unfortunately, FAD GADGET is now dead and master Numan is sporting a more dark industrial sound these days. Hence we are in dire need of fresh blood for this kind of music! And who would be better suited to fit the role than Don Goldmann and Sancho Schirner who have been riding against the windmills of the establishment with their orphaned church organ Lola and the most eccentric electro-pop vision of all time for quite some time now? On their new album "Viva La Lola", the mad duo (now minus a horde of brawly ballerinas but joined by a live band) is taking the next step towards world domination by reinvigorating the spirit of the aforementioned pioneers of the early 80s and unleashing the wildest electronic funfair sound in years onto their unsuspecting public. "Viva La Lola" is anti-pop of the most subversive kind, gloriously full of unpredictable melodic twists from warbling analogue contraptions riding high on stomping beats plus a healthy dose of frenetic and fresh vocal escapades. LOLA ANGST do not give a damn about convention and enliven their rather dancefloor compatible sound with lots of little atonal peculiarities and sonic experiments. Furthermore, fans of the 80s will probably get quite some kicks out of trying to figure out all the little quotes from and references to popular songs from this era. The hit potential of this creative rollercoaster ride might not reveal itself immediately to everyone, but when the songs hit you, they will stay with you for a long time. Review M.O.S. is the Liechtenstein-based label that first discovered and launched bands such as L'AME IMMORTELLE, DIE VERBANNTEN KINDER EVAS, WELTENBRAND, ICE AGES and WHISPERS IN THE SHADOW. It is the only label based in the tiny principality on the Swiss/Austrian border, and was founded by Oliver Falk, who is also the mastermind behind ERBEN DER SCHÖPFUNG ('Heirs of Creation'). After their successful debut "Twilight" released in 2001 (on NAPALM Records), which caused a big sensation amongst the goth audience, the project has slowly evolved over the years from pure gothic into a dark electro band, without being afraid to infuse the music with some heavy guitar sounds. Musically speaking, the all new album "Narben der Zeit" ('Scars of Time') sounds harder and faster than the debut. Electronic beats are dashed with metal drums and quite an impressive wall of guitars. As with the previous album, the lead vocals are range between clear, heavenly female vocals and more distorted spoken parts. All in all, "Narben der Zeit" is a refreshing new combination of proven essences, offering at the same time a full set of contrasts to mere gothic/electro textures with a lot of alternations and hidden refinements in the sound!
