In our second catch up we cover the busy month of June, which saw a new EP from Combichrist, and equally storming releases from current faves S.A.M., Angelspit, Straftanz and Nachtmahr.
Portion Control unleashed a limited 5 CD boxset alongside the new album Slug, and there's the debut release from Spetsnaz side-project Turnball A.C.'s for those who like old-school EBM. Bit-pop fans will enjoy the new album from the excellent Thermostatic too.
The prodigious Sopor Aeternus released another CD and Wolfsheim re-released their 'No Happy View' album.
June also saw a host of top-notch compilations, including Extreme Sündenfall 7 (when will they have scantily-clad men on the front for a bit of balance?), United Vol. 1, Infacted Vol. 4, Some Bizzare Album, When Angels Die, Cryonica Tanz Vol. 5, and Gothic Compilation Sampler Vol. 40 no less.
Finally, Nine Inch Nails availed us of a new DVD - The Broadcast Archives.

Angelspit are among the Top 10 industrial bands on the planet as ranked by MySpace and their first international album "Krankhaus" was a massive success on both sides of the ocean!!! This is the regular edition of Angelspit's eagerly awaited new album; there will be at least one (maybe two) additional limited editions (to be announced soon). A crazy futuristic noise-punk industrial duo from Down Under with a serious medical fetish, Angelspit offers hard beats, distortion & glitchy sonic anarchy, certain to please fans of KMFDM, Skinny Puppy, Atari Teenage Riot and Miss Kittin. "Blood Death Ivory" is the Aussie twosome's follow up to "Krankhaus", which became one of Dancing Ferret's best-selling debut albums ever. Once again, the band doesn't skimp on the visuals, delivering a lush booklet with an eye-catching cover that jumps right off the shelves. "Blood Death Ivory" contains eleven songs guaranteed to defibrillate the heart of electronic music.

Hightlight Newcomer of the month both in Zillo and Sonic Seducer!!! It seems that Pontus Stålberg has had a little too much time on his hands in the past few months. With proactive support from his old chum Lars Karlsson, he formed the project Turnbull A.C's, a truly massive affair, indeed! The debut album's title can be seen as programmatic, the tracks are angry as hell and perfect for an alcohol-induced pogo party as well... all depending on how you wish to read the word "pissed". The evil brother of Spetsnaz is definitely Old School EBM, yet a tad more straightforward and aggressive. Pontus and Lars may be able to drink without having fun "We Can Drink Without Having Fun", but "Let's Get Pissed" delivers the fun factor in loads, its smashing tracks being an altogether irresistible invitation to uninhibited body movement. Pontus must have pent-up a whole lot of aggression, though, because these tunes are definitely harder than usual... and he is not exactly renowned for being the introverted type. The music was stripped to its bare essentials, as Turnbull A.C's come straight to the point with beats, bass and shouts in eleven hard but catchy Old School tunes. Spetsnaz fans will also most certainly not be disappointed, as it always clearly shimmers through who is behind the music. The ideal soundtrack for relieving your aggression and for dance floor workouts. Turnbull A.C's, the Hardcore Hooligans strike again!

The superb packaging of the 1st issue is strictly limited to 1000 copies. Thermostatic finally returns with their 2nd album "Humanizer". Their debut "Joy-Toy" released in May 2005 earned them a Manifest nomination (Swedish Indie Grammy) and the award for "Best Newcomer" at the SAMA (Swedish Alternative Music Award). The new album offers the same youthful playfulness as the debut but with a deeper, larger, fatter and more varied sound. However the Commodore 64 based cult synthesizer Sid-Station still plays an important and often prominent part.

27 Years after its original release, this wrongly spelled (Bizzare instead of Bizarre) album-title is as legendary as its contents, and finally sees a much demanded re-release: This truly amazing album launched the careers of the likes of Giants such as Depeche Mode (with the completely different, original version of "Photographic" - never released on any official Depeche Mode album or compilation since!), Soft Cell, The The, Blancmange and other timeless classic acts! The album also cemented Some Bizarre's position as one of the worlds most important independent labels. A true collectors item for anybody interested in the genesis of 80s Electonica, Goth and New Wave. An extremely important album which featured the first outings from some of these legendary artists. For fans of any modern genre, this album is as relevant today as it ever was. This special re-release also features tracks considered for the original compilation which now appear as bonus tracks plus the videoclip of The Residents "The Act Of Being Polite".

Comes in very nice digipak with silver foil blocked artwork like on the original LP cover. The music and lyrics on "The Fruits of Yggdrasil" are a means of initiation into the Northern mysteries. Patrick's powerful thunderous and sensitive backing music to Freya's spoken and chanted poetry and runecalls capture absolutely the elemental magick and energies of the Gods and Goddesses of the Norse mysteries and the shamanic energy of the Runes. The music ranges from conveying the maelstrom of a curse ("Nithing") to the delicate melodic harp tracery of a "hymn of praise to Wodan". Leading off with "Havamal", Freya's intonation of the eddic poem "the hymn of the high words" the eighteen runecalls vibrated powerfully into the aether, Patrick's music giving the words of magick and invocation a spirit of authentic and eldrich power. Whether martial cacophony of percussion, or delightfully melodic (as on "North Star") the whole of the "The Fruits of Yggdrasil" has the hallmark of a genuine grimoire. Here is magick of intent, a synthesis of fire and ice, a reminder that these elder beings are not dead! They can be rekindled to interweave once again with our wills and desires. Just listen to the spirited swirling majesty to end "Ragnarok". Surely proof enough that the elder beings will live again after the end time...

Complot Bronswick is a very peculiar, unique band of the 80s French rock, cold wave scene, formed in Rennes in 1981. At first Complot Bronswick affirmed its singularity, working the relationship of music and image, finding again the noisy tradition and the futuristic roots of actual music, imaging and directing spectacles to turn concerts into real performance, the stage into a theatre screen, the music into acts. This second "Tome" of their work gathers the 3 long deleted albums "Iconoclasmes", "A Kind of Blue" and "Complo" as well as loads of compilations tracks and exclusive, previously unreleased bonus tracks and mixes.

Another great discovery on Rage of Eden! This is a musical testimony filled with the gloomy romanticism of Kirlian Camera, Coil's sonic sadness and the energetic clamour of Skinny Puppy. Cold and original arrangements, dense and oppresive electronic sounds, aggressive industrial phrases, melancholic melodies and cold, impassive voice. Listen to this musical diary of everyday fears and find yourself between words setting modern world a challenge!

Functional is proud to present a vinyl diamond for the first time ever on CD! "The Eight Pillar" was the first Con-Dom full length release dating back to the year 1991, and was the 2nd vinyl release, after the Tesco 7" "Oh Ye Of Little Faith" by the British power electronics industrial outfit Con-Dom, short for Control Domination. This release had an accompanying booklet ordered separately which now forms part of the artwork of the CD release. The CD is inspired by the life, writings and example of British author and "man of action" T. E. Lawrence, an enigmatic outsider who lived a tortured odyssey of physical and spiritual extremes in search of his own personal faith. The name of the CD derives from his book called "The Seven Pillars Of Wisdom". With these recordings Mike Dando, the man behind Con-Dom, did set high standards in a genre that was just starting to emerge. The powerful sounds and his strong voice give a good impression of how torturous the life of Lawrence must have been. Con-Dom explores every kind of social tension and control, political, religious, racial, with an acid, violent and uncompromising attitude. He is well-known in the industrial scene for his furious ravaging vocals and the devastating live performances, in which he turns into a real stage animal. This record is a perfect example on how good writing and experience can flow into this sort of industrial power electronic music. Those who missed the Limited (300 copies) LP version back in 1991 must see this record as a milestone or just as a simple must have!

DBS is the Russian answer to And One, or as others say, DAF crossed with Laibach at the Red Square. 54[R] and his songwriter GoshaFiend formed their EBM formation "Deutsche Berittene Spetsnaz" in 2006 and havemade an impact with their two download albums in the electro scene. Bizarre ideas never lack. However, DBS does not only stand for war on the dance floor, it also means bizarre wordplays and a typical Russian accent with distinctive German lyrics. And the official debut album "Only DBS Is Pure Bodybilly" is only the beginning. Discover the German Mounted Spetsnaz! But be careful: Nobody plays Bodybilly like DBS!

This is the first official CD release by the band, on Nightbreed recordings, following a number of self releases. Staying true to their subcultural Industrial Goth Rock roots, but whole-heartedly embracing the power of both new and old technologies this is undoubtably the best music they have ever produced! Gaining exceptance in the Goth music scene for this heavy guitar driven band has been like bashing a square peg through a round hole, but the corners are now well and truely splintered. This CD is the final hammer! Every track endeavours to reinforce the band's standing within the Gothic music scene and beyond! They have previously toured with Mortiis and Gothminister.

The swirling sense of lust meets the hardness of stone. The music of Défilé Des Ames is a blend of contrary elements, violence & lyricism, atmosphere & rage, murder, purity, winds & mushrooms...Their traditional and classical instruments are accompanied by powerful percussions and the participation of the great Matt Howden (Sieben) gives a uncompareable accent to the album. "Lust 'n' Stone" is a brilliant, dark Avant-Garde Folk album and after many years of live appearances and independent releases, here is finally the debut album of the Mediterranean Folk-gods Défilé Des Ames. The folky compositions seem in spite of some melancholic sub tone very vigorous, touching on both edges equally Neoclassic, and Gothic elements. Rocklike escapades with drums and electric guitars as well as mandolin sounds fit in naturally and so keep the style far away from those boring and simple campfire melodies we all know too well. The songs are to be expected at the same time hymnic, thoughtful and playful, always like covered with a spiritual breath of air, unfolding their nocturnal freshness whose gloomy spell is summoned by a strong male voice. Reminiscences to a whole bunch of genre bands might be recalled -- Sol Invictus, Current 93, Ataraxia, Tenhi...just to name a few. It seems like Défilé Des Ames have made it their task to filter only the best characteristics of all these bands and to mingle this extract with their own personal and exceptionally lyric touch.

CD in folded A3 sized postercover, limited to 500 copies. Dissecting Table is one of the most influential Noise artists from the early Japanese Industrial years. the first Dissecting Table recordings are quite unique in the Japanese Industrial scene, as the band was working with very concrete rhythms and screaming voices and they even had dark and slow songs, which was completely untypical for this time and region. the only comparisons to early Dissecting Table recordings might be the legendary albums of Grim and White Hospital. In early 2007 Steinklang released the double-CD "Ultra Materials 1986-1991", which included the first 7", the first LP, the first CD and early compilation tracks. "Early Studio Works 1986/87" finishes the last chapter of unreleased early Dissecting Table songs. the CD includes 6 earlier/original versions of songs, that were later released on the first 7" and on the first LP, as well as 5 completely unreleased tracks. Swirling colours, deep drones and psychedelic moments, Esoteric will touch your mind, alter your state of consciousness and make you aware of the esoteric essence of space and time. When this English band formed in July 1992 as a gathering of five individuals, they were inspired to create dark, innovative music that was evocative to and expressive of the contents of their psyche. Their lyrics, music and sounds are reflections and transpositions of their thoughts, philosophies, emotions and experiences. Their music captures the essence and true meaning behind the word 'esoteric'. With this long awaited new double CD, "The maniacal Vale", the collective further expands on their slow psychedelic journey into crushing atmospheres. Bow your heads to this masterpiece of extreme doom.

Fractional is a quiet young man called Pierre. His music can be described as "Gothic Erotica", a dark and brooding electronica. Pierre unleashes his brokenbeats and tortures them to submission, waxing them with various bleeps and crackles. After a few releases on tiny underground labels, "Fractional" now presents a full length CD on Brume. Somewhere in between breakbeat experiments, electronica and pure industrial, complex structures, subtle though catchy melodies and rhythms, create an extremely personal, bizarre and always most fascinating sound universe. To some of the best of idm ("Autechre and Squarepusher"), Pierre adds subtle industrial influences, a pinch of the harshness of drum'n'bass, to get a mix of dark electronica with a strong jungle aftertast.: That's what "Come Mierda" is dealing with. The CD includes remixes by Detritus and Disharmony plus a video clip by Antonin de Bemels.

This is Bryan Konietzko/Ginormous' third most direct and potent musical message to date, even more emotive and personal than his previous work! These eleven tracks were objectively beaten and honed until they each became the most condensed and vivid versions of themselves. Konietzko shines his bright, 'Artificial light' on the elements that most electronic music composers fear: melody, song structure and brevity. The album is an intense and addictive experience, charging forward with the nervous energy of urban, night time cityscapes, speeding subways and foreboding factories. There is an organic, human element at the center of this unrelenting journey, in the form of symphonic and acoustic instruments and warm bass lines, balancing the bold compositions. The album starts with "Punches To Carefully Coax," a proud peacock of a track where thick, jagged planes of ice collide with razor sharp synth strings. "Melted Circadian" bristles with a chromatically-fractal melody that spins like a neon helix in vortex while the closing track, "Awakening The Magpie In All Of Us" sails on a slow bonham-esque dream beat while dozens of chimes and metallophones pull the 43mins album to its inevitable, timely conclusion.

The 'goJAs' are definitely one of the Newcomers of the year and managed to get huge attention from the press and the radio alike in Germany, that's why we decided, to use Ecki Stieg's praise as the official information for this release! Ecki Stieg is Germany's No. 1 alternative Radio DJ, a sort of German John Peel! "Great works do not need too many words of description of epic length. A fact, that Mr. go and Mr. JA are very well aware of. The two artists met by coincidence 3 years ago, and the result was the self produced EP 'Sex im Turnschuh' (Sex in Sneakers). Is there anything, that could still be added to the genre 'Electropop' nowadays? Would it even be possible, to re-define the genre? On their official debut, goJA moon ROCKAH easily succeed to match both of these targets as they have, what most protagonist of the electro-scene are lacking of, the understanding and feeling for perfect, condensed Pop and the courage to follow and develop their very own 'style', regardless of trends and influences at the same time reflecting a subtle, almost anarchic humour, as only few of their fans will remember from legendary 80s electro pioneers such as Der Plan or Tommi Stumpff". Deeply rooted in the soul of 80s synth-pop, the duo delivers their very own invention and re-invention of synthpop and are not afraid to cover even long forgotten German 80s classics such as Der Plan's "Generäle Essen Erdbeereis" or Paris Hilton's "Nothing In The World"! In between these examples of sheer madness, the world of goJA moon ROCKAH unfolds in its amazing beauty, "Rockah" or "Attackah Masskah" are catchy melodic pearls with soul and if we would live in a perfect world, the song "Geil-O-Mat" (recalling Tommi Stumpff's memorable best tracks) would for sure become a major club hit, as it has simply ALL the ingredients for it! "Elektronation" is one of the most impressive and varied electropop albums of the year! There is still hope for and in Electro! Format CD

"Sang Graal" is an opus magum, built in symbiotic collaboration during the last two years by the French masters of martial neo-classic Dawn and Dusk Entwined and the German Ritual Folk band :Golgatha:. Both bands are well known from their recent albums on Cold Meat Industries. A wide range of acoustic instruments were used (guitar, viola, bass guitar, flute, gong, piano, dulcimer, percussion) and at least three vocalists appear. The title refers to the myth of the 'Sang Graal' (the Holy Grail), and the 'Sang Réal', the bloodline of Jesus Christ. The album researches on various levels the different readings of the grail through centuries...

Fans of mastermind Richard Lederer (Summoning, Die Verbannten Kinder Evas) have endured 8 long years of suffering in anticipation of "Buried Silence", his ripest and darkest work thus far. The doleful rockers once again transport the listener to a melancholic world with "Songs For The Last View". Their latest work is a whirling current of powerful, dark, and graceful songs that take the Gothic Rock gender one step closer to perfection. With masterful ease Lacrimas Profundere is able to create a balance between driving Rock and gentle reflection. The deep and strong vocals of the new frontman Robert Vitacca provide the finishing touch, giving the tracks their pronounced singularness, and making way for producer John Fryer (HIM, Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, Ashbury Heights...) to refine the album's sound. "Songs For The Last View" offers the perfect soundtrack for somber hearts, and for those who would like to join their ranks.

Marc Almond initially shot to fame in the early 1980s as one half of synth duo Soft Cell, whose combination of drama and peep show sleaze set to an electronic beat gave them hits such as "Tainted Love", "Bedsitter", "Torch", "Say Hello Wave Goodbye", "Soul Inside", "What?", and the club hit "Memorabilia". Almond also went on to be a highly succesful solo artist and now Some Bizarre are re-releasing three of his classic albums. Jacques was originally released in 1989.

Mono Inc. is back with a vengeance! The 3rd album from Germany's gothrock heros is full of unbelievably good compositions. Musically it has everything we've come to expect from this band, breathtaking drum patterns, soaring bass lines, rich guitar walls, gorgeous keyboard pads and empathetic vocals create an evocative soundscape that captures the listener immideatly. Lyrically the focus is (as the title already implies) intensely personal throughout, and anyone who has experienced the ups and downs (especially the downs) of love will find himself poetically echoed here. Featuring ex Xandria singer Lisa Middelhauve in the song "Teach Me To Love".

Nobody knew where the rabbits went, one day they disappeared and were never seen again. Swedish The Search wraps catchy pop melodies into a gloomy cloak, creating sounds that seem to be predestined for escaping the daily grey routines. When the press is talking about The Search, they speak of a beautiful retro mix of wave and rock in the vein of The Cure and Joy Division. The band does not deny their roots, but take pleasure in para-phrasing them in their own slightly deranged and atmospheric way. "Saturnine Songs" is the band's 4th official album and is a masterpiece of alternative pop between melancholy, darker moods and more electronic, catchy sounds. Format CD

First, all the material on this CD is a great selection from the following Tapes: "Reflection of Joy" (1986), "Behind the Mists" (1988) and "Falling in Love" (1990). It's completly remastered and reworked, and part III of "Eis & Licht's" series "Dokumente". On this CD you listen to the beginning days of Apocalyptic Folk Music. In this time, there were big influences from Punk and Wave and all the people were dressed in very nice uniforms. If you like the early albums of Death In June, Sixth Comm, Sol Invictus, Joy of Life and New Order then you will love this music.

The Volume 2 companion of 2006's innovative J-scene compilation: the best-selling 'Dark Waters'! 'Darker Waters - Deeper Into The Japanese Underground' takes the best-selling 'Dark Waters' concept to new heights...or should that be '(previously unplumbed) depths'? And of course 'Darker Waters' is also awash with brand new material from Deathwatch Asia artists like Despair, Sins of the Flesh, and SawDust In ME, other artists familiar to European audiences from touring like Baal, The Royal Dead, and Gothika (ex-Euthanasie)...and the debut recordings from new acts like Lillies and Remains and The Neutron Ego Tape! Synthphony Records continues its legendary series "Synthphony REMIXed!" with Volume 8 by Arsine Tibé, a.k.a. Manfred Thomaser. A member of Germany's famous electro pop band !distain remixed twelve tracks, among them indie classics by In The Nursery, Das Ich, Catastrophe Ballet, Girls Under Glass and Sara Noxx. For most of the tracks Tibé just worked on the original vocals to explore a unique world beyond the classical remix styles. "Gottes Tod" (Das Ich) for example was thrown into a jazzy underground sound before entering a dancefloor called "galley techno". In The Nursery's "Shonen No Hi (Cinemix)" is presented as a sensitive ballad. "Night In My Hands" (Sara Noxx "Handful Of Nights Mix") combines the silence of night with the energetic light of the morning sun. !distain fans are already awaiting the remix of "Chaotic Brain" because the original version of this track has not been released so far. "Synthphony REMIXed! Vol. 8" is released as a double CD. The second CD contains Arsine Tibé’s instrumental album "Lounge Noire". This CD is a bonus disc and a gift to all music fans. "Lounge Noire" was created between 1996 und 2002 and includes the original version of "Ghost" (later on produced by Olaf Wollschläger for !distain's LP "25 Frames A Second"). Format 2CD

The "Synthpop Club Anthems" compilations have helped to define the modern synthpop scene for years, presenting dance club friendly songs to move bodies and elevate minds. This fifth volume is loaded with another collection of high energy tracks that are as well written as they are well produced, showing that dance music doesn't have to be built upon the pairing of dull, repetitive lyrics with a thumping beat. After all, that's one of the strengths of the modern synthpop underground, that great voices can sing great songs with great electronics!

Nurse With Wound, Thighpaulsandra, Nocturnal Emissions, Andrew Liles, Controlled Bleeding, Product 8, Asmus Tietchens, Gjöll, Holy McGrail, Ali Helnwein. This limited edition (700 copies) CD is a very special release with an unusual mix of sound. Call it metal ambient, drone metal or electronics metal, the result is something previously unknown and exciting. Hear Nurse With Wound doing one of their darkest tracks ever, listen to Controlled Bleeding's totally insane restructuring of a rock track, or be surprised by Nocturnal Emissions's return to noise, this album is unlike anything else you have heard in recent years.
