This week's catch up, again the first for a while, looks back to April - a month with both quality and quantity.

Top of the list was a new CD with a 40 page booklet from Einstuerzende Neubauten - The Jewels. With text by Blixa Bargeld, 15 new tracks and a 40 minute movie, this is definitely essential for all fans.

Next up there's "Civil Disobedience" from Danish EBM legend Leaether Strip. This is available as a 2CD release and a 3CD Boxset that includes a 20th Anniversary bonus album.

Death In June released a live album, recorded way back in 2000 in Melbourne. The CD has been digitally recorded and mixed, and contains twelve tracks, which could be regarded as a live "best-of" experience.

Girl-band Client released a rather special compilation CD "Untitled Remix", bringing together the best remixes from the "Heartland" era, along with collaborations, rarities and unreleased material.

Noisemongers Xotox unleashed "Hyperactive - The Best Of...". This collection features the Industrial club stompers "Eisenkiller", "Industrial Madness", "[Xo]toxic" and "Winterblut" featuring vocals by X-Fusion. Also included are 4 tracks from the out-of-print "Die Unruhe" CD; 2 exclusive tracks, and a Noisuf-X remix of "Lass Mich".

The newest X-Fusion album "Vast Abysm" also celebrates the band's 20th birthday. Coming in a tin box and including the bonus MCD "Inner exile", this release is limited to 3000 copies.

"Come Forward - Live In Berlin" was also released in April. Featuring many of Seabound's hit tracks including: "Scorch the Ground", "Exorcise", "Hooked", "Poisonous Friend" and "Watching over you", this is the band's first live album.

The final mention goes to Kloq, who with "Move Forward" conjure up eleven explosive tracks with quality song writing, delivering solid electro sounds and dancefloor hungry beats.

Only one more 'Catch Up' newsletter to go now. We'll be covering March in a couple of week's time.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

APRIL RELEASES
Einstuerzende Neubauten The Jewels £14.99
Review
Coming in special Ecobook packaging with 40 page booklet in full color, text by Blixa Bargeld and all Lyrics in German and English! 15 all new tracks plus a 40 minutes quicktime movie! "The Jewels" album is the result of an experiment to search for a navigation system, which led the band back into hidden niches of the Einstürzende Neubauten universe that have not been especially brightly illuminated before now; into those corners, which have remained in the dark or have been forgotten despite two decades of restless movement. This visualization of their musical cosmos began at the same time as work on Alles Wieder Offen (2007). Initially, these miniatures were conceived only as download presentations for the supporters of Phase 3 of neubauten.org. Consequently, the time that could be spent on "Jewels" was limited; two days had to suffice to go from the initial idea to a finished song. As a result, Neubauten sought for a creation process, which would develop the necessary dynamics. In this context Blixa Bargeld sensed that it wasn't necessary to listen to all the Neubauten albums to remember all those great and miserable ideas, coincidences and inventions that had occurred to the band since it began. He could rely on his memory and listen to it in order to finally envision an unsystematic, Neubauten-specific deck of cards (the first version contained 600!) that became a game, a divinatory adviser and a navigation system. Every card made a cryptic reference to elements of what Neubauten have created over the last 28 years, including the instruments, materials and structures, with references to verse or chorus, intro and outro, middle section, social relationships and alliances. Who with whom? Who with what? At what speed? From which position? The band played "Dave" (the name that was quickly established for this card game) before every "Jewels" recording session. It was like Tarot without rules. Everyone drew a couple of cards and attempted to interpret them. Afterward, the band went into the vaulted cellar of the studio and came back with shopping carts full of strange stuff, then spent a large part of the day converting all these things, objects and materials into ideas. It was important not to tell the others what card one had. Instructions could be given when required. Otherwise, the name of the game was to surprise and be surprised. Through "Ein Traum" (a dream), one of the first cards that Blixa Bargeld drew at the beginning of the experiment, he immediately unleashed the problem of having to deliver a text within a very short time frame. He resorted to a "dream archive" that he had laid out over the years. The dream records filed there in their "il"-logic proved to be wonderful raw material to correspond to the increasingly surrealistic instructions that "Dave" gave to the band. The result of this "subversive interpretation game" is a concept album with miniatures, small Jewels, 2-3 minutes in length, about which Neubauten say: "At first we considered this process a gigantic digression, but after a while we noticed that the excursions that led us away from the normal album work were justified by the results, because they allowed us to deliver some of our most ego-free compositions up to now."

Leaether Strip Civil Disobedience £12.99
Review
In 1988, young angry Danish teenager Claus Larsen would ignite an electro / industrial firework that is still exploding high and loud 20 years later and across the whole world... The brutal LEAETHER STRIP machine really knows no 'stop' button and has again switched back to 'attack mode' loaded with the brand new Double CD "Civil Disobedience". A new album full of hate, venom and frustration, but also a new album so true, so direct and so deep that it can be heard as a forceful call for revolution, action and reaction : Fighting the system and questioning leadership.

Claus Larsen's rise to fame-cult status is 100% the fruit of his uncompromising artistic attitude, which has always brought him where his dark soul would carry him, without ever conceding ground to compromise or any trend. Album after album, Danish EBM legend LEAETHER STRIP has constantly fueled the underground dance floors and he will set the fire again in 2008 with monster power tracks like the instant hit "When Blood Runs Dark", the solid "Jagtvej 69", the punkish "Pissing On My Territory", "The Cradle of Death" and the pummeling, political "Going Nowhere".

To mark these 20 years Claus Larsen also seized this unique anniversary opportunity to write the conceptual "One-Nine-Eight-Two" CD, a collection of forbidden art that Claus Larsen has devoted to the good old years of moogs and 808's... An electronic tribute to the magic year 1982, when he bought his first synthesizer, his beloved Moog Prodigy that radically scrambled his life for the many decades to follow, and would transform a frustrated revolted teenager hiding his sexuality into a happy and obsessed daydreamer with a noir soul carried away by his flood of creativity and composing frenzy...This beautiful album of pure eighties synth lines and fat bass sounds is exclusively available as a Bonus album in the deluxe carton box edition of the "Civil Disobedience" album. An impressive 3CD package revealing where LEAETHER STRIP comes from and where it stands today in 2008 : Amongst the leaders of underground dark industrial / electronic music.

NOTE : CD2 also features an amazing cover-version of DIE KRUPPS famous track "Machineries Of Joy" !

Client Untitled Remixes £11.99
Review
On April 8th, 2008, Client release a rather special compilation CD: "Untitled Remix" brings together the best remixes from the "Heartland"-era, along with collaborations, rarities and unreleased material. An ideal disc for anyone who does not yet own the 12" club vinyl singles accompanying the group's latest album (...maybe because they do not own a record player anymore), bringing together some of today's most exciting artists in the electronic music scene (Eyerer and Namito, UnterART, Fuchs and Horn, to name but a few...), showcasing their creative talents on Client's hit tunes. "Untitled Remix" is something of a journey through the myriad facets of today's Electronica. Additionally, the ladies have delved deep into their sonic treasure chest for their fans: two unreleased songs (one new piece titled "Sorry" plus a raving version of the cult hit "Der Amboss" from Die Krupps... with assistance from the masters themselves), two unreleased remixes and rare compilation tracks (for instance the floor filler "Suicide Sister", featuring Nitzer Ebb's Douglas McCarthy) complete this jam-packed disc. "Unitled Remix" is a fan treat, a creative overkill and a disco inferno at the same time... a roller coaster ride through the gazillions of different facets of the coolest all-girl-band on the face of this planet... and an ideal addendum to "Heartland!"

Xotox Hyperactive - The Best Of... £12.99
Review
Xotox was founded in 1998 as a solo-project by Andreas Davids. Adequately described by himself as "industrial for hyperactive people", the Xotox-sound is characterised by hard beats, catchy melodies and merciless noise-attacks. the debut-album "Stueckgut" developed a small cult following, which eagerly anticipated the following releases "Epos" and "Monolith". with the release of "Disinhibition" Xotox started performing live around germany, winning more fans and attracting media attention for the first time. The following albums "Normalzustand: Angst" and "Rhythm of Fear (Live in Jena)" received a variety of great reviews. In 2002 "Silberfieber" and the mini-album "Nothing" were released featuring the hits "Eisenkiller", "Nothing", "Null" and "Zweischicht", which went on heavy rotation in many clubs in germany. Both releases success resulted in Xotox being picked up by industrial label Pronoize, which in turn led to Xotox getting a much higher profile in part through their contributions to high profile compilations such as "Industrial Frequencies Vol. 5" and "Industrial Highlights Vol. 1" both put together by the German scene magazin Orkus.
'Hyperactive' is Xotox's first album that will be released not only in Europe, but in North America, and this 'best of' is the perfect retrospective for fans of one of Germany's must brutal bands, and a wonderful introduction to their catalogue of work for those just encountering this stalwart of the industrial scene. This Collection features the Industrial club stompers "Eisenkiller", "Industrial Madness", "[Xo]toxic" and "Winterblut" featuring vocals by X-Fusion. Also included are 4 tracks from the out-of-print "Die Unruhe" CD; 2 exclusive tracks which are sure to dominate the Industrial dance floors this year, and a Noisuf-X remix of "Lass Mich". Totally Recommended!

Kloq Move Forward £13.49
Review
Oz Morsley conjures up eleven explosive tracks with quality song writing and delivers solid Electro sounds and dancefloor hungry beats, but he is also a master at writing catchy tunes. This has straight Club tracks like "Ibiza" (the cover of a late 80s dance floor classic) standing side by side with hearty, raw Electroclash tunes and digital Pop anthems of the other kind. "Move Forward" is a brave mix of all the myriads of possibilities that the wide field of electronic music has to offer... and it just gels together perfectly. Electro Pop Music is too tame for your taste? But pure Club sounds too monotonous and abstract for listening to them at home? Kloq offer the best of both worlds... and a lot more!

Diskonnekted Old School Policies £11.99
Review
On Diskonnekted's third full length album "Old School Policies", Belgian artist Jan Dewulf shows his furious face and shoots his anger at religious freaks and other conservative propaganda / politicians. Armed with sonic bullets like "Pray Vote Donate Buy", "Adrenaline", and "Nu Speak", Diskonnekted give an apocalyptic setting to this new electronic journey - holding nothing back even on more laid-back and highly emotional songs like "When I Come To Fall" or the splendid "Storm" featuring Frank M. Spinath ( Seabound / Edge Of Dawn ) as vocalist.

While "OId School Policies" will probably and rightly be perceived as Diskonnekted's darkest album ever ( and which logically follows the sound of chilling noir atmospheres found on their predecessor and huge club-hit "Frozen" EP recorded with Dirk Ivens of Dive, Sonar, Klinik etc ) this new CD is also the most open and diverse work to date. The characteristic Diskonnekted groovy vibes are given new orientations ranging from the explosive industrial hip hop / electro collaboration with SMP on "Anger" to the lush classy edged synth pop on "Storm" to the Industrial dance on the viral club-filler "Pray Vote Donate Buy".

The album brilliantly jumps from upbeat scenarios to more relaxed moments while keeping its full anger intact delivering modern and uncompromising electronic music made in Belgium.

The album brilliantly jumps from upbeat scenarios to more relaxed moments while keeping its full anger intact delivering modern and uncompromising electronic music made in Belgium.

Puissance Mother of Disease £11.99
Review
In the year 1999, while mankind sat unaware of their fate and wondering if the moon would drift away into the far reaches of space as the 20th century came to an end, the martial industrial/neo-classical masters Puissance reappeared. With the Industrial rust of early days properly polished, the Swedish duo would further explore their talent for graceful arrangements set to Militaristic Neo-Classical music. Following the overtly confrontational offerings of "Let Us Lead" and "Back In Control", Puissance were now set to resurrect the ghosts of the Cold War and an obsession with all things thermonuclear that haunted the planet at that time: something that they would term the Mother of Disease. Brooding hymns to suicidal heroism, devotional praises to a new god that would finally bring closure to the human race, the screeching of metal twisting and melting, all of this found its place in Puissance's own beautiful vision of the impending apocalypse, that they so ingeniously depict on "Mother of Disease". Originally released in 1999, "Mother of Disease" is the third full length album produced by Puissance, following the early "Let Us Lead" and "Back In Control", and last year's new album "Grace of God". As with its predecessors it has been re-mastered and enhanced with one bonus track, and comes presented as a matte-blue deluxe digipak edition.

Merzbow Scene £13.99
Review
Scene is a supreme surrealist work, with passages so hallucinatory you find yourself utterly lost in it. From metalworks in an unknown territory, to birdcalls echoing in a seemingly empty vastness, to drum patterns remniscent of 2004's excellent "Offering", to odd underwater pulses of the ocean, to the reappearance of the disturbing cow/sheep/human moan of 2005's "Senmaida", to eerie windchimes tinkling atonally in the gossamer moon, the album offers a prismatic look at scenes out of nowhere, or somewhere caught in a time warp. Don't let the tranquil and peaceful look of the cover fool you. This is no easy ride.

Proyecto Mirage Turn It On £11.99
Review
Proyecto Mirage was founded in 1990 by Alicia H. Willen and Francisco Planellas. They were initially influenced by the classic electro-pop of the early nineties (a sound which is still present in their side project Bubble Gum) but the duo were also attracted to industrial music projects like S.P.K., Whitehouse and, of course, Esplendor Geométrico. Their first release (on Hands) saw the light of day after nine years, and their creative output since then has evolved with more complexity. The hard-floor oriented aggressiveness was enriched with electronic ingredients of all kinds, ranging from electro and EBM, to techno, drum'n'bass, or even sounds similar to those of experimental 'bridging artists' like Aphex Twin and Pan Sonic. Artists who share Proyetco Mirage's taste for alarming atmospheres, broken melodies and distorted rhythms. "Turn It On" is the conclusion of more then ten years of progression, uniting high-speed dance floor blasts ("Cannibal Party"), distorted eighties nostalgia ("6 6 5, 9"), straight breakbeat excursions ("Welcome to Life"), disturbing experimental-core ("Darker Bex") and above all: pounding four-to-the-floor industrial anthems ("Salvation", a collaboration with Italian folk mastermind Spiritual Front), this album is a perfect amalgamation of all facets of the electronic assault culture - all of which is welded together to form a powerful statement that encompasses severity as well as humorous wickedness - nobody expects the Spanish inquisition! This is what they are, this is where the project is today - take it or leave it. Always keep in mind: Proyecto Mirage is not just an illusion but a concrete reality!

Review
Following on shortly after their harsh and merciless album "Fu** all $y$tem$" here is the new release from Ambassador21. This is essentially a compilation CD, and has tracks which were released between 2002 and 2007, together with two live versions recorded in Paris and Florence during the "Fu** all $y$tem$" Tour 2007. This recording comprises all the elements which define the sound of ambassador21: the grinding wall of sound, the massive distorted beats, the heavy breaks, the sharp guitar riffs and, of course, Ambassador21's Trademark ferocious duel of vocals plus the hard-as-nails lyrics. Architect/Klima Noiseambush £9.99
Review
If you like Architect's new release you might like this too! Kellermusik is a young label from Leipzig, Germany, and Daniel Myer from Architect is working there. With this release Kellermusik breaks out of the techno scene. The music is finally where it belongs: industrial DJs all over the world will play the label's music. With this 12" Kellermusik pushes the limits within inimitable reduced/industrialesque techno, stomping kicks and always freaky effects and noises. It's like a 'clicks and cuts amoktrip'. This little compilation features 2 Exclusive tracks by Klima and two Architect remixes by Klima and Monstre Mekunnik.

End.User Left £16.49
Review
End.User is one of the cornerstones of the modern eclectic electronic music scene. A usually prolific artist, having recorded for Hymen, Ad Noiseam, Sublight, Cargo, and many others, he took 2007 off, to work on something very special: his debut album now released on 'ohm resistance'. Having relocated to San Francisco, his creative power is demonstrated adroitly over the entire album. "Left" shows the most range of End.User's album making career. Intensely personal, intensely musical, and just plain intense at points, the album showcases a spectacular array of skills across the board. From radio play material ("Black Light") with Aussie vocalist Sol Thomas, to collaborations with and remixes by influential electronic acts Scorn and Counterstrike, to absolutely stunning, no boundaries drum'n'bass, the album is diverse and full of powerful compositions. Compelling from start to finish, "Left" is the culmination of more than a year's work.

Escape With Romeo Enhancer £12.49
Review
Portugal is certainly the source of many wonderful things: finest port wine, Cristiano Ronaldo and Moonspell, to name but a few. But does harsh Electro exist in Portugal? No? You're very much mistaken there! Check out ESC and their second album "Enhancer"! Their debut "Matte" earned them proper respect from the electroheads worldwide and ESC are continuing to turn heads with their recent release "Enhancer". Be prepared for propulsive rhythm merged with hypnotic beats full of melody, furthered by accentuated significant speech samples. Highly danceable stuff for the club-floor. "Totes Licht" - which means "Dead Light" - is their first song in German and the ultimate successor to ESC's massive club hit "The Robots" (A Kraftwerk cover). If you like X-Fusion, Agonoize or Grendel, you will love ESC.

Hecq Night Falls £11.99
Review
Those who are familiar with Ben Lukas Boysen's 5 year catalogue of work will notice an important change while listening to this album. His former creations can be seen as explorations of different sound facets transforming Boysen's feelings into music. It took time for this artist to subordinate the innumerable technical possibilities to become implements of his inner self, and he already began to walk this new path with "0000". Now, Boysen qualifies Night falls as a turning point in Hecq's personal and musical history, and also as a conclusion of what Hecq stood for until now. Artistic expression of personal experiences are often difficult because these experiences often block the artist's creativity. In exceptional cases it is possible to achieve, and one of these cases is "Night Falls". The predominant mood of the twelve tracks which were recorded as one continuous opus ranges from teariness and melancholy up to beauty and puissance, unleashed by discontent, the assurance of a need for change, or even a stroke of fate. Never before has Hecq's music implied such melodic and compositional richness. Comparing the music on "Night Falls" with romantic classical music seems imaginable; majestic strings interact with electronic soundscapes to bring sentiments into being. This is a manifestation of a person who is aware that changes happen, and that changes have to be made. As Boysen says: the sixth Hecq album will be much more different; this fifth one is the first of many new steps to follow.

Tyske Ludder SCIENTific technOLOGY £8.99
Review
After their much appreciated come back with "Sojus" and the re-releases of all of their previous albums in 2006, EBM-legend Tyske Ludder is back with the new "SCIENTific technOLOGY" 8-track EP. In terms of style and harshness Tyske Ludder are still famous for their excellent German Old School EBM, but have proved themselves very capable of producing excellent modern Electro tunes. "SCIENTific technOLOGY" is not just a small appetizer for the next album but an expression of the band's wish for dealing with a very current topic. And in typical Tyske Ludder style, this is done with maximum aggression! Just listen to "Thetanen"! The new EP comes with 3 brand new tracks and exclusive remixes from bands like Wertstahl, Nurzery [Rhymes], Brain Leisure, E-Craft and Feindflug!

Ionic Vision feat. Orange Sector Sweet Isolation £8.49
Review
Ionic Vision, always on the hunt to broaden their horizons, still equals EBM. On this extra-long 'EP', Ionic Vision once again delivers a convincing proof. "Die Macht" and "Sleep", two tracks [used here as warm ups for their next full album "Bitter Isolation"], get the remix treatment by a variety of artists and top DJ's. "Die Macht" indicating how sex breeds power is not only strengthened with additional vocals by "Orange Sector", you also get the chance to enjoy the first remix "Orange Sector" has ever produced for another band. Open minded as ever, Ionic Vision, once again explore the boundaries of electronic music by inviting none other than "The Horrorist" to remix "Die Macht" too. "Sleep" has been remixed here by none other than the legendary DJ David Carretta, who delivered a splendid rework of what is already a solid track. Hungry for even more diversity from club gurus, Ionic Vision also invited Elektrolad (known for recent remixes for Komputer) to give "Sleep" a twisted make over, and the most experimental and way out remix for Ionic Vision. The remixes on "Sweet Isolation" taste so sweet people will be begging for some "Bitter Isolation", and Ionic Vision aim to feed that tasty desire!

Negative Format Gradients £12.99
Review
After three years of silence, Negative Format is back with a brand new studio album for 2008. Marking a new evolution in Negative Format's sound, Gradients is a refreshing new take on the techno/electro genre. Thematically, the album examines the human mind, the dark, the light, and the grays inbetween through a fusion of musical influences. Delicate pads, intricate beats, beautiful vocals, methodical glitches, epic synths, down tempo rhythms, and floor pounding kicks work in harmony to create an aural experience unlike any other. Highlights on the completely mind-blowing "Gradients" include the pulse pounding "Hues of Grey", the epic "Structures and Shadows", the driving "Origins", the high energy "Photon Ring", the groovy "Foundations" and the somber "Granite." If it seems that every track on the album is a highlight, well, that's because it is. Gradients clearly stands out as Negative Format's magnum opus.

Adoration Sleepwalking £11.99
Review
Formed in 2003 by Stephen Carey (The Eden House, NFD), vocalist John Stone & Lee-Anne Burgess on bass. They spent the band's early years perfecting the huge bombastic sound of epic soaring guitars, sweeping orchestral textures, rock solid bass sounds, driving drums and insidious vocal hooks. Adoration's lush sound has captured a lot of interest over the last couple of years, with the band's music being played by clubs and radio stations all across the UK and mainland Europe. The band was introduced to mainland Europe through articles in Germany's Gothic magazine and others, additionally, early samples showcasing their signature sound were featured on "Gothic Comp. 36" and Strobelights "New Dark Age Vol 2". Adoration took to the road supporting both Red Lorry Yellow Lorry and All About Eve. This flourish of live activity culminated in a headline show, which brought to light their potential as a very exciting live act. When on tour they are joined by Simon Rippin (ex-Nefilim/NFD) on drums, and Rob (Voices of Masada) on 2nd guitar. 2008 sees the release of Adoration\'s long awaited debut album "Sleepwalking". Not content with the mediocre and the everyday, the band have crafted a masterpiece that will capture the imagination of listeners everywhere.

This is music created from a place beyond all imaginable Hells... a place that only exists deep within the macabre mind of its creator, Roger Karmanik, founder of Cold Meat Industry. A CD of such impenetrable darkness as if the entire world has collapsed in upon itself! Where the inspiration has been drawn from for these recordings can only be speculated, but suffice to say it's not a place one would like to spend an eternity! Tormented voices announce the birth of some unspeakable horror, while heavily metallic, grinding electronics shudder like the last gasps of a dying machine. Together they form a vision so bleak and ghastly it purges both the mind and soul of everything but the most impure of thoughts. Leave all notions of decency at the entranceway, for they are not wanted nor needed here. Only in the final title track, featuring the despondent orchestrations of Mortiis, will you find solace, but even that is a harbour deemed unsafe.

Neoncoil Non Stop Electronic Cabaret £13.99
Review
Minimal and monotone sequences and analogue synthesizers characterizes the sound of NeonCoil. The clean sounds of Kraftwerk come to mind and give you a small hint of what you can expect from this project. Very minimal sequences and analogue sound gadgets await you and it's completely instrumental. I guess the big strength of this album is that even though the monotony is obvious, you never sense it that way and that is something very special about this release. Will appeal to fans of Kraftwerk, Komputer, Anthony Rother or Soft Cell.

Ophelia's Dream Not A Second Time £11.99
Review
Despite Ophelia's Dream's very limited output (two full-length albums and one ep), this act is one of the most successful 'Heavenly Voices' acts ever to come out of Germany! Their second album, released years ago on Kalinkland was sold out fast and has since been deleted. So this is a rare opportunity to purchase this seminal album again. Strictly limited to 35 copies, it will be a fast seller for sure. "Not A Second Time" is a masterpiece of art! Dietmar Greulich, accompanied by singer Susanne Stierle, created a magic album, full of longing and passion. Thoroughly romantic, the new songs such as "Exsolutio" or "Lady Magdalen" will sound familiar to devotees of Ophelia's Dream, but still offer some surprising twists of evolution with filigree arrangements and deep excursions into a magical world of ancient rites, mystic places and otherworldly fairytales...

Dark Territory Libera Me (plus bonus track) £14.49
Review
Dutch label Guflu Industries proudly presents this re-release of Dark Territory's wonderful debut album "Libera Me". The music and voice of Dark Territory contains hints of Dead Can Dance, Delerium, Skinny Puppy and even Philip Glass. Originally released in 2005 on the Dark Wings label, this re-release boasts one special bonus track and alternative artwork. Dark Territory consists of vocalist/producer John van Loon and techno producer Jamez. The sound is different from the familiar underground. Sinister ethno and electronic beats fuse together into an ethereal mesh. Moods change as often as the language of the lyrics. Close your eyes and get swirled over a vast plain. There you will catch sight of pagan cult sites as well as turntables, medieval marketplaces and industrial frames made of steel. It is a strange country which you fly over and it is dark... a Dark Territory.

Novastorm Bitch to the Bone £14.49
Review
NOVASTORM is a German duo, consisting of the two devoted musicians Tandrin (also of MECHANICAL MOTH) and Disdain. In the middle of 2006 Tandrin and Disdain started to unleash their imagination on a sick, brutal and erotic industrial-electro music style, resulting in NOVASTORM. Tandrin had previously released 3 successful albums with MECHANICAL MOTH, and the first NOVASTORM songs came from musical experiments within this band. As it became apparent that many of the songs were dancefloor magnets, Tandrin decided that this project, originally intended as a hard side project of MECHANICAL MOTH, was worth a closer look, to be worked on independently of his main band. And so NOVASTORM became a sensation on the electro dancefloors. Within a short time the song repertoire was enlarged with more and more dark works full of originality and brutal hardship. NOVASTORM's songs come combined with the elaborate graphical artwork of "Bitch to the Bone", which harmonizes perfectly with the morbid and erotic warmness of fresh clotting blood. This combination of hard industrial-electro and brutal or erotic lyrics is standing out from the usual uniformed stomping dance floor electro, and will work well on the dance floors of the dark electro scene. NOVASTORM allow their darkest fantasies full expression with "Bitch to the Bone".

Arditi Omne Ensis Impera £11.99
Review
This highly anticipated new album by the martial industrial/dark ambient Swedish duo is finally upon us. The sense of determination that echoes through their music and which has brought them to the forefront of the Martial/Industrial Neo-Classical scene remains untouched. It is a sound that evokes the sense of duty and commitment for which Italy's WWI elite storm troopers, from which the name Arditi originated, were known for. "Omne Ensis Impera" introduces an additional strength to Arditi's compositions: the epic orchestral loops and thunderous percussions are granted a more prominent role in the mix, elevating the damp and suffocating ambiance that the duo have always produced so well with their use of ominous synths, obscure speeches and mesmerizing narrations. Similarly, shades of the Italian Futuristic movement of the early 20th century, which provided inspiration in the early days of the project, remain ingrained in Arditi's work - "Omne Ensis Impera" could well be a modern interpretation of the Futurist's goal of glorifying warfare to an artistic expression beyond its inherent violence and intrinsic sense of heroism. "Omne Ensis Impera" has been mastered by Kamrat Nordvargr of MZ.412 and Toroidh, an old ally of the band. Nordvargr has also contributed additional arrangements on a couple of tracks, and prepared a slightly modified track list, which will feature on the vinyl version of the album and the limited edition box set. This CD version is presented in a deluxe glossy Digipak, with embossed artwork.

Blame Water £13.99
Review
Blame are an electronic, cyber-fantasy, ethereal EBM band from Belgrade. They were first discovered by Dependent Records, who chose the track "Space Hulk: Evolution" as the opening track for the "SEPTIC IV" compilation. A different version of the Septic IV track is also included on this album under the title "Evolution". Their offcial debut CD "Water" was released by Cold Trinity in early 2007. "Water" is now re-released, with one additional bonus track, by Klangdynamik, and the album offers monumental darkwave, in flux between introspective meditations and industrial dancefloor smashes.

Contagious Orgasm Spill Drop £13.99
Review
A new step in the creative evolution of Hiroshi Hashimoto, one of Japan's most controversial musicians, presenting a dense stream of sound, exploding in Contagious Orgasm's traditional flashes of sexual obsession and ritualism. A highly mature and complicated work. On one hand you can find micro glitches, clicks, subtle melodies and controlled rhythmic clicks'n'cuts and on the other hand more experimental sounds: from raw field recordings, noisy frequencies and distorted voices to sinewaves and continuous glitches. As always for Waystyx Records, also this CD comes in an exclusive packaging in transparent heavy polyethelene and a strip of technical ribbon with a red landmark.

Exocet Violation £11.99
Review
René Klimaczewski a.k.a. Klima is well-known for his collaborations with artists like Converter and Architect; he also made well-received remixes for Displacer, for example, along with supporting young upcoming performers like Demian, Rdr a.k.a. Raw State and Denizchador on his label kellermusik, which started seven years ago. By chance, on a trip to New York in 2007, he became acquainted with Dave Kean, an inspirational character and a non-musician with a twisted mind, who left Klima stunned with a multiplicity of ideas and extraordinary creative urges. Kean became the muse for a new-born named Exocet, and this album is the first result of this artistic insemination. "Violation" holds a perfect balance between technoid complexity and industrial roughness, spliced into a single unit by accomplished use of well-structured rhythmic work. Fortifying bass pulses and diversified synth chords are enriched with scattered sounds and voices, generating powerful undertones of anxiety and threat. Turning Kean's guidelines into music, Klima developed a one-of-a-kind style of digital sequences and human sentiment, defining an almost surreal post-industrial atmosphere. Exocet is a crucible of sounds resonating with power and motion, completed with a pounding, merciless remix by U.S. electro-industrial legend Manufactura, a truly fine conclusion to a landmark in the neutral zone between electronica and industrial!

The Rorschach Garden Transfer £12.49
Review
They are back! Never before has a The Rorschach Garden album been as self-contained as "Transfer". Compared to their previous albums one will notice a significant wave influence and a tendency towards contemporary songwriting; here, the Bielefeld based trio present a mix between state-of-the-art electropop and instrumental tracks, which are a perfect invitation to listen deeply. The opener "Move Myself" already points the direction: catchy melodies, P.Münch's unmistakable vocals, driving beats, and moods perfectly balanced between joy and melancholy. Once again The Rorschach Garden present the perfect connection between vogue and sophistication, a trademark they have been well known for since "State protection". Contemporary, inspiring electronic songs, simply a guaranteed aural pleasure!

Bitcrush Epilogue In Waves £14.99
Review
"Epilogue In Waves" is the third album from Mike Cadoo's ever evolving Bitcrush (ex-GRIDLOCK). The album is the soundtrack to a story which begins with a sense of hope, but whose undercurrents pull you to the end you feared. "Epilogue In Waves" marks the end of Cadoo's "wading in the ocean" thematic metaphor for lost time that constituted the backbone of his previous album, "In distance". As Mike, himself, described this 'rock record', the album eschews some of Cadoo's previous electronic methodologies for a more stripped down songwriting style, which utilizes only guitars, bass and drums. This experiment in the basics of musicology, has led to a sonically rich release that still contains those warm musical crevices that define solace. "Epilogue In Waves" will please fans of previous works by Bitcrush as well as neophytes to Cadoo's brand of emotional & sometimes epic songwriting.

Die Perlen Szenenwechsel £13.99
Review
The curtain rises for "Die Perlen", finally they are back, presenting their second album "Szenenwechsel" (change of scenes). Back in 2006 their debut "Telektroponk" marked the birth of a new musical genre, something completely different and independent from any current trend! Die Perlen are Katja Ha and Ferdinand Es from Nürnberg/Germany. After loads of concerts around Europe, Die Perlen were marqued kings of Telektroponk! This, their second album, is louder, faster and even better! In case you still haven't heard of Die Perlen yet, expect something in the vein of bands like Welle:Erdball's "Hello Atari" (especially with regard to the lyrics...). The songs are mostly sung in German, although both of the band members are able to express themselves in English and French as well. You should take the time to dive deeper into the quite clever and smart lyrics, as songs like "Geiz (Ist Blöd)" not only sound great, they also kick ass. Just imagine "Welle:Erdball" and "Sigue Sigue Sputnik" put in one pot, melt it down with some "Electro", "Ponk" and some parts of "Tele", and you're ready to enjoy!

Neon Oscillator £13.99
Review
Another hot date with the history of Italian new wave: Neon, with Marcello Michelotti on vocals, accompanied by Stefano Fuochi. At the mixer: Maurizio Fasolo and Massimo Michelotti, soon after to be known as PANKOW. Halfway between hard goth and elegant neo-Futurism, with the determination needed to metabolize and mould into something new, the influences of Kraftwerk, Harmonia, Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire. "Oscillator" is the missing link between Neon and all that came before. This is the radioactive embryo of a creature called Neon. Before their debut single. Before their consecration on the covers of Italian music magazines. Before their journey into gothic electro-rock. Before becoming legends. An experiment that at the time may have seemed like just a rough outline, but that now sounds like a taste of the micro-electronic future to come. Almost three decades all wound onto one simple cassette tape, a fetish item of the pre-digital era, but now that the future has arrived, we are obliged to press play.

Prospective The Dark Side of Life £13.49

"The Dark Side of Life", the debut album by Prospective is the result of two years of intensive work. The two musicians Carola Müller (composition, lyrics, vocals) and Marco Thomaschewski (composition, arrangement) have a very sensitive and personal approach to the darker sides of life, which has made "The Dark Side of Life" an album with many different facets. It combines all shades of electronic music and proves that it is possible to mix EBM, Electro and Gothic in such a skillful way that it all sounds like one great harmonious musical work. Harsh beats and emotional ballads, connected by Carola's amazing voice, combined with skillfully arranged vocal compositions enable you enjoy an unique and diverse CD. Beyond The Void Gloom Is A Trip For Two £14.99
Review
A dive head first into the Night, that's Beyond the Void's new Goth Metal album! From "Her Dive Into Midnight" to "A Minute Before Dawn", the album's 12 songs journey through night time sins, temptations, passions and pains. It's the 3rd album by this German outfit, after an album on Blutengel's "Fear Section" label and a self produced CD. The band's 4 composers wrote twenty to thirty songs for this album, but only the best ones managed to appear on this great release! They are working on the full soundtrack of the PC Adventure "Schachwelten", which will hit stores Christmas 2008.

Autumn's Grey Solace Ablaze £13.49
Review
The flame of inspiration continues to burn brightly on "Ablaze", the fifth album (in six years) from ethereal shoegaze artists Autumn's Grey Solace. "Ablaze" contains eleven tracks of passionately created dreampop gems. Erin Welton's crystal clear vocal melodies soar into the heavens while Scott Ferrell's lush backdrop of guitars and other stringed instruments are richly orchestrated, with great attention paid to clarity and detail. The music is alive with blazing, echoing guitar chords, sun-kissed vocal harmonies, and a blistering rhythm section. "Ablaze" is a warm, glowing version of shoegaze, and celebrates the beauty and romanticism of the genre.

Necrophorus Moments of Sleeping Sadness £14.99
Review
"Moments of Sleeping Sadness" is not a new album but a collection of early material gathered from 1991- 92. This music is probably best described as Modern Classical or Gothic when we consider its somewhat sad and mysterious nature. The songs on this album are somewhat reminiscent of Peter Andersson's main project Raison d'Etre, only more powerful and majestic. This is essentially a collection of beautiful and melancholic compositions to take your soul to other dimensions! Definitely one for fans of In The Nursery, Nouvelles Lectures Cosmopolites, early Ildfrost, Penitent, Endvra, Arcana or even the gothic icon Dead Can Dance.

Replica Languages of Decay £15.99
Review
Replica is the new promise of the South Amercian scene. This parallel project of Vigilante (Black Rain/Twilight) is fully dedicated to electro and dark music and Replica's debut offers the listeners an obscure passage in sound. This album is full of emotions, feelings and unforgetable songs that are reminiscent of bands such as Diary of Dreams, or Diorama, but at the same time, always maintaining a very individual touch.

Seelenthron/Traum'er Leben/Trinithos III £15.49
Review
"III" is a split album between three gifted Neo-folk artists: the classic German NeoFolk bands Seelenthron, Traum'er Leben, and Trinithos. On this album each band interprets their favourite songs by the other 2 bands and contributes one new song each. The 'finale' of "III" is a bonus track by Alexander Meier (Seelenthron) - a fantastic, neoclassical cover version of a Soulsearch/Sturmpercht song. The 3 bands are well known and highly respected in the German NeoFolk scene, as they are all fantastic musicians and great live artists. Seelenthron and Traum'er Leben have already released several outstanding albums, but for Trinithos "III" is the debut release (beside some very limited CDR releases).

Bisclaveret Amalgame £13.99
Review
The new Bisclaveret album contains 9 re-works of Bisclaveret classics, prepared by bands from the independent scene, such as Endraum, Ghosts of Breslau, God's Box, Moan, Sleeping Pictures, Horologium, synta[XE]rror, Loverdozed and Hoarfrost. Each of them re-interpreted Bisclaveret songs in their very own vein adding surprising elements, thus creating and exploding a stylistic mix: from minimal sounds based on vocals and subtle melodies through elements of goth up to electro-industrial versions. "Amalgame" presents a new face of this Polish band. The CD also contains a special bonus, "Insane in God" video. Comes in 3-panel digipak!

Balzac Hatred:Destruction=Construction £11.99
Review
Since 1992, Balzac have been raising hell in the international punk scene. Often cited by many as Japan's answer to The Misfits, this Osaka quartet shun the "campy" side of horror that the US punk legends are famed for, instead choosing to concentrate on horror's darker side, isolation, loneliness, terror and fear. After numerous singles through various indie labels, in October 1995 Balzac released their first full length album, "Last Men On Earth" through Alchemy Records, garnering attention not only in Japan, but, due to their unique sound, horror movie image concept and so-called "Devil Lock" hairstyles, also overseas too. Combining Rockabilly tinged Punk with Metal flavoured J-Rock, Balzac's appeal is widespread, with both old and new school punks, as well as J-Rock fanatics counting themselves as fans.

Cauda Pavonis Wars And Masquerades £11.99
Review
It's all about timing and that's what this is about; Cauda Pavonis and timing. 2008 sees the band celebrating 10 years and what a set of years they've been. 10 years of playing venues as far apart as Newcastle and Leipzig, 3 self released sold out albums, 2 EPs, appearing on 20 compilations, headlining and supporting some of the scenes finest bands at some of the UK's top shows and venues, TV appearances and appearing at some of Europe's top festivals. "Wars & Masquerades", the long awaited 4th album, recorded by Su Wainwright, the "Whitby Gothic Weekend" appearance will be part of the 10 Years Tour that includes some of top UK alternative venues and 2 major festival appearances at WGW and Wave-Gotik-Treffen. The music of Cauda Pavonis has evolved form the minimalist releases of the late 90s/early 00s and has now become one of the most unique sounds on the Goth scene to date. No goth 101 and definitely none of the 'Goth by numbers' which litters the scene on an all too regular basis. This is as fresh, new, rebellious and challenging as the original Gothic Punk scene. The things that music making is meant to be about.

Lunascape Innerside:Otherside £13.99
Review
Brilliant Belgian band that features ex-Hooverphonic vocalist Kyoko, whose singing is reminiscent of Sinead O'Connor, Bjork, or Delores O'Riardan of The Cranberries. Top notch smooth electronic production that blends elements of trip hop, ethereal and electronic rock. Will appeal to fans of Delerium, Dido, and similar artists. Brilliant! Innerside gets released 4 years after the previous album Reminescence and is a recording that needs some time to get used to before it reveals its gems. But it definitely is worth it, since Innerside delivers on all fronts. "Innerside/Otherside" (limited edition) is a double album with dreamlike yet straight forward up-tempo pop tunes such as the song for the Belgian TV series "Surrender" and furthermore the great very full grown mellow pop tunes "Burden of Beauty", "Counterclock Desire", "Into the Core", "Simplify Me", "United Brands", and "Chemical Lingo"; which reflect the special chemistry between the atmospheric sultry and relaxed sounds of Walter, and the different emotions and the recognisable vocals from Kyoko. Also convincing are "Electro Love" which develops from a pop tune into a grooving electro track, as well as the epic sounding last song "Shimmering Sun". So, enough highlights on this new Lunascape album. The Bonus CD is a nice extra with songs the band wrote for the popular Belgian TV series "Flikken", added with demo songs and remixes. "Innerside/Otherside" is another step forward in their career.
