Due to the very busy week we've had, and the fact that we're attending the Whitby Goth Weekend (Jo has a gig tonight!), we won't be producing our regular newsletter this week. Normal service will resume next weekend.
However, we do have news of a very limited re-issue of VNV Nation's "Past Perfect (Special Edition)", to coincide with the release of Reformation 1, which is due to arrive on Monday. This special edition of VNV Nation's "Past Perfect" has been sold out for over two years now. It comes in a cardboard box that includes two DVDs and a CD with additional CD-Rom tracks, plus A3 sized poster, A6 sized sticker and a 12-page DVD booklet containing photos, credits, index, etc. The first DVD contains ten live tracks, filmed at the Columbiahalle in Berlin, at the M'era Luna festival, and on tour in the US. Also included are explanations of the some of the songs by the band, on-tour impressions and behind the scenes footage, fan comments, and before- and after-show interviews. The second DVD contains band interviews, exclusive footage, tour impressions and more. Also included are some 'Easter eggs' (hidden items), internet downloads for owners of the DVD, and subtitles.
I'd also like to mention that all formats of Depeche Mode's new album "Sounds of the Universe" are now in stock, including the beast that is the boxset. Weighing in at almost 2.5kg, this has caused us a lot of problems (and late nights) as it's too heavy to ship overseas using Royal Mail as a single unit. It is very nice though, so get yours before they're deleted!

VNV NATION's highly anticipated release "Reformation 1" is finally on its way! This is a highly limited release that's especially intended for the band's fans, VNV Nation's first box set, the contents of which are something that any fan would love to own - a 12-track live CD (recorded on the "Matter and Form" tour in 2005, at the Wave Gothic Treffen Festival in 2006, on the "Judgement" Tour in 2007 and at the M'era Luna festival in 2008), a 13-track remix album featuring rare or previously unreleased material (tracks written between "Future Perfect" and "Matter and Form" albums, for the soundtrack of the movie "Gene Generation" in 2007), and a DVD containing 8 videoclips. There will also be a nicely designed booklet with lyrics, full information on all the tracks and a large number of live photos, all packaged in a high quality, dark grey, fabric covered box with the band's name and logo embossed on it.
Ronan Harris says of Reformation 1: "We spent a lot of time in 2008 planning what our releases should be like from now on and this is part of the results. The original idea for "Reformation" was to replace the need for singles by releasing an EP or Album containing remixes, alternate versions and live versions of tracks from the album "Matter and Form". We never abandoned the plan and, as ideas grew, "Reformation" evolved into something much bigger and better. "Reformation 1" will be part of a series to release special material to our fans. We put a lot of work into this and we're very proud of the results. We hope you will be too."
VNV Nation will release their next full-length album "Of Faith, Power And Glory" in June 2009 and will be doing a full tour of Europe in September/October 2009.
As a special offer, Music Non Stop will be offering quadruple loyalty points on this title until the 17th of April.

Please note: This boxset is exceedingly large and very heavy. So heavy that we are unable to post it overseas by Royal Mail. Thus if you order this item from overseas, the only way we are able to get it to you is to open the box, split it into two packages and ship them separately. Please do not buy from overseas if you are not happy for us to do this.
Arriving imminently, the long-awaited new album from DEPECHE MODE entitled "Sounds of the Universe". It is being much touted a return to form for the trio from Essex, and the chosen name alone makes the release feel like the follow up to "Music For The Masses". But it doesn't stop there... DEPECHE MODE apparently returned to using a lot of vintage gear in the making of this album, from analogue synthesizers to drum machines, in order to conjure up the retro-futuristic arrangements featured here. Lyrically the release contains many of the group's enduring obsessions plus more overt black humor than any of their previous collections. Not to be missed.
This collector's box set comes packaged in a two-piece custom-made box with foil blocking, and contains 2 x 84 page hardback books. The first features the lyrics to all the songs from the "Sounds of the Universe" sessions accompanied by exclusive photography by Anton Corbijn. The second features exclusive and candid studio photography by Daniel Miller, Ben Hillier, Luke Smith and Ferg Peterkin. The box also contains two exclusive enamel badges, a poster, 5 artcards sealed in a collectors envelope, and a certificate of authenticity.

The sole member of NEW RISEN THRONE is know as STIELH, and is one of the Grand Masters of the blackened dark ambient coming from Italy recently (see also VESTIGIAL). His exceptionally black and foreboding ambient creations are well known within the scene by now. The previous NRT release "Whispers of the Approaching Wastefulness" (released on Cyclic Law) represented the steps leading to the acknowledgment of the approaching end of all things... This new chapter "Crossing the withered Regions" is the journey through wasted "regions" of our inner self, withered by our doubts, thoughts and fears about the end. This is the soundtrack to the world we live in and experience at the very present. It is utterly dark and there is certainly no sun in the horizon. Slit your wrists and float away...
The CD is enhanced with a special video-track and comes in a 6-panel digipak.

Nearly four years since the release of their acclaimed concept album "Meridian", German duo FINAL SELECTION are back, newly signed to Flashpop media and hoping to realize the big success that has eluded them so far.
"Clockworks" combines gloomy, dense layers of synths with crisp beat work, providing the perfect foundation for Riccardo's vocals, which seem simply immersed within this sea of sounds, as if they belong there. The overall effect, combined with the subject matter of the songs, is to transport the listener into a magical, dream-like sound world, one that is quite different from the one inhabited by their contemporaries.

Five years have passed since the self-contained (and now deleted) "Drake Equation". This EP is also a 'stand-alone release' - a stop between the second and the third part of the Nyan Trilogy. Sal-Ocin joined THIS MORN' OMINA as a full member a few years ago and now the project is a trio with the inclusion of the live concert drummer Spike.
Here they have created five tracks which combine rhythmic complexity with impulsive power and tuneful depth to aurally express mass and velocity of an object (i.e. it's momentum). Framed by the fast, pulsating floor burners "Momentum I" and "II", you will discover the melodic beauty of "Nuraghi", the tribal, symphonic darkness of "Ananda" and the slow, melancholic flow of "Tellurian". Synthetic beats, acoustic percussion, sub-bass, atmospheric electronics and energetic vocals result in the uniqueness that THIS MORN' OMINA stands for!

After finishing the well-received "Night Falls", B. L. Boysen's ambition for the next album was simple: to improve HECQ's sound, and to move it forward into something Boysen defines as an 'emotional destillate'. The tracks "Typhon" and "Steeltongued", written in 2007 and 2008 respectively, provide the blue-print for this CD. They show a non-confined structure and in addition they work well as a basis for collaborations and remixes.
The success of disc one lies in the skillful omission of the insignificant. Although complex abstract rhythmic textures predominate during tracks 2 to 9, no 'scrolls' block the essence. After the majestic "Spires Awake", the listener will be trapped in an extensive blend of IDM, breakbeats, and even breakcore, complemented with the infusion of Nebulo's mighty dark soundscapes and Nongenetic's modified voice.
Disc two is the result of Boysen's decision to have the CD's title track remixed by a wide variety of artists. He sees "Steeltongued" as representative of HECQ's work, so he was most curious about the results; and they are indeed interesting - CD2 can be seen virtually as an album in its own right. Ranging from melodic sequenced beats (XABEC), clicks'n'cuts emerging into a noise outburst (SPYWEIRDOS), and syncopated intelligent breaks (Skam label's TEAM DOYOBI) to intricate sub-bassed electronica (ex-FUNKSTÖRUNG's's Michael Fakesch) and alienated dubstep (DISSCOXX), plus remixes by Tobias Lilja, Raoul Sinier, ULTRE STEAL TONGUES, MOTHBOY, BLACKFILM and EL FOG. This addendum displays the versatile facets and possibilities implied by HECQ's work. Once again Boysen is setting the pace. Have a deep listen!
Comes in a deluxe 6-panel digipak, with artwork designed by Christopher Hewitt.

On Friday the 13th of June 2003, the Swedish aggressor penetrated a virginal North America and left a sick stain inside the city of Chicago. The assault lasted for just over sixty agonizing minutes, intimidation of power the only lubrication. Sometimes slow, and accompanied by whispered threats, other times hard, and gratuitously painful. Always overbearing and unrelenting. Isn't that what LOVE is supposed to feel like? Moans of pleasure in the throes of violation. The amplification of obsession within an ongoing 'abusive' relationship. The evidence of trauma conveniently packaged and presented as a commodity. Feel dirty and ashamed over and over again. Remember, you're a victim, not a survivor.
On this special occasion the personell of BRIGHTER DEATH NOW were Roger Karmanik and Proiekt Hat.
Your trauma comes in packed in a delicious foilprinted 4-panel digipak.

William Gibson's cyberpunk visions have finally found their band! Out of the shimmering, urbane darkness of modern megacities, DOPE STARS INC. rise up to strike once more.
Young, loud and damn sexy, they're no cold, electronic robots, but decadent rock warriors of the digital age. Outlaws who move between shimmering neon lights, designer drugs and modern technology, they tear down boundaries and defy all categorisation. With the energy of a nuclear attack they celebrate their vision of beauty and decay. Heartrendingly tragic, darkly apocalyptic, seductively beautiful and hard-as-nails rock. Powerful walls of guitars rebound off shimmering sequencers, the distorted vocals being a personification of modern industrial rock. Wistful melody refrains conjure up passion. Goth meets cyberpunk, Nu Metal meets Electro. Industrial meets Rock. This is the future! Everything which has gone before blends into that which is fascinating and new. Virtual reality long since became actual reality: "Bladerunner" hunts on the streets and the DOPE STARS INC. create the perfect soundtrack to it.
This new strictly limited EP includes 15 brand new killer tracks! Four exclusive previously unreleased tracks as a taster for the new studio album, a rare demo version of the DOPE STARS INC. hit, "Vyperpunk", an exclusive cover version by DOPE STARS INC. of the CLAN OF XYMOX cult classic, "Jasmin & Rose" as well as nine remixes and cover versions of DOPE STARS INC. songs by KMFDM, MORTIIS, GOTHMINISTER and SPIRITUAL FRONT among others. "Criminal Intents" is released as a strictly limited edition luxurious digipak.

Review
"Angst is a German word for fear or anxiety. It's also used in English to describe an intense feeling of strife. In German, 'Angst' normally means a feeling or fear towards anything strange." In a time in which many kinds of musical styles are falsely called 'gothic rock' THE HOUSE OF USHER are giving a clear statement with their seventh studio album "Angst" which shows them as mature and self-conscious artists. Even if it has to be seen as the result of their continuous renewal and self-exploration that has been going on since 1990, it is a distinct concession to their roots in the British wave rock of the 80s.
Relieved of superfluous ballast, "Angst" presents itself as an album of epic strength, rough melancholy and simple and true beauty. In the tradition of their 1999 release "Cosmogenesis", THE HOUSE OF USHER return to a close correspondence between artwork, novel and atmosphere in their music. Regardless of the superficial flood of pictures surrounding us, this album concentrates on mere expression and the effects of reduced stylistic devices. Dealing with existential anxiety of modern man and the question where in life he stands, also featuring the amazing artwork of famous German book illustrator Mark Freier, "Angst" is like watching the world through a distorted mirror. To our surprise many things look clearer and unequivocal from this point of view.

Review
Following up their surprise hit debut "SIC", the UK's confrontational industrialists UBERBYTE are now ready to unleash their follow-up, titled "Dos", on Crunch Pod.
"Dos" maintains UBERBYTE's penchant for hook-driven songwriting, this time with a darker, grittier edge. It also sees the band emerge from a whirpool of influences into something altogether more realized and mature. On the new disc, the band's central recording hub and main clubwrecker, also known as Uberman, remarked:
"With "Sic" we announced ourselves, but "Dos" goes a quantum level beyond that. We're still all about songs and hooks but this time we got down to showing some more teeth, a bit more of the kind of aggression and groove we have live. It was a blast to make too -- lots of fun and that's what really counts to us."
UBERBYTE remain, at their core, a mixture of the old- and new-school of industrial, pumping out enough pile-driving, slam-dunking power for any dancefloor while at the same time being capable of throwing out lean, distinctive, melodic material with a dark, twisted sense of humor.

The CD+DVD Edition of the album comes with a bonus CD containing a short film, the promo video for the single "Wrong" and additional audio material.

After a two-year long intensive concert schedule, DOLLS OF PAIN delivers their third album, a mature offering, bringing together five years' worth of experience at the heart of the dark electro/dark wave scene. The title is the quite explicit and the CD is centred around this new phenomenon, drawing content from the exploration of it.
At first glance, the main thing you notice is the professionalism in the design of the album cover, the originality of the tunes, the quality of the arrangement and the production of the album. If the group has not yet produced its masterpiece in this album, it is undoubtedly getting there: DOLLS OF PAIN deliver electro music that is both sharp and melodic, subtly mixing pointedness with softness. From here on in, the voices reveal two styles which weave cleverly around each other, carrying us away to a universe of sensations - sometimes icy, sometimes blazing hot. The elaborate rhythms are overlaid with harsh guitar sounds, reminding us that man's fate is formed by feelings that are pleasant and heart-rending at the same time.
The album ends with a burst of fireworks: the DOLLS include four remixes produced by acclaimed artists (BLUTENGEL, LEAETHER STRIP, BAKXIII and ALIEN PRODUKT), thereby proving the extent and the quality of their contribution to music. Put simply, the DOLLS have produced an all-accomplished album which will not be repeated and which will delight electro dark-wave fans everywhere. In a single sentence: we'll meet on the dark dance floor!

The future is now - absolutely every single prediction of the cyberpunk movement has been fulfilled, changing the world we live in its totality. If you are not a zombie you have already realized this.
Welcome to the reflection of disaster. Born under bar code oppression we keep going with firm steps towards a world in which simulation is more important than the truth. Big corporations have drowned us, and a rebellion in the networks seems to be the last resource to get to the explicit freedom. UNIX warriors get their weapons ready...
The stylish ladies with the skilful hands for electronic music are plunging us headlong into an addictive maelstrom of groovy Minimal Disco, mingled with the coolness of New Wave and an unerring Pop sensibility. Compared to the big scale cinemascope-sound of "Heartland", CLIENT have returned to their very essence: "Command" is a raw and straightforward production dominated by analog synthesizers and Minimal Electro arrangements with full-on, club-friendly beats. Following the credo that less very often equals more, the trio have conjured up a highly versatile album from these basic ingredients. Bare bones dance tracks such as "Believe in You" and "Satisfaction" breathe the foggy air of trendy clubs, the sinister "Don't Run" is a gripping little sonic angst scenario and songs like "Can You Feel?" are perfect Pop tunes. No matter which musical realm the band enters, the result is always stylish and catchy as hell. Alternating between girlish innocence and femme fatale, CLIENT skilfully play their cards, knowing full well that their new album is raising the bar for Minimal Disco, New Wave and Alternative Pop.
